Are Saab's expensive to fix? Easy or hard to maintain? Will it last 3 years or 10 years?

Hey, what year of Saab are you considering? Saab has come a long way in their longterm reliability. I will say this about turbo cars in general: Turbos will brake and need to be replace eventually! If you can deal without the added performance, naturally asperated engines are a longer lasting solution and enjoyable for their linear power bands and predictable power.

Depends on the year and model. You need to research this carefully.

Saab is one of those cars that generally don't deserve their reputation (like Rolls Royce)....probably, pound for pound, they became better cars when GM bought them, but were also less interesting.

I'd say, overall "quite mediocre" is the most honest way to describe Saab. Some people have good luck, some bad luck. The car is a crap shoot.

I'd say yes expensive to maintain, and I would absolutely sell it right after warranty is over.

Pleasant to drive though, good in snow and sometimes you can buy them at a healthy discount or on a factory supported lease program.

Saabs are generally pretty sound mechanically although since GM took them over a few years ago they have had a higher incidence of electrical problems for reasons that escape me. Parts are quite expensive, and they charge more for shop manuals than any other company I have come across. All in all though they are pretty good cars. They handle well, brake well, accelerate reasonably well, and are pretty comfortable inside.

I've never quite gotten used to the ignition key on the transmission mounting instead of the dash, but it does serve to lock up the transmission and make the car harder to steal.
