What do you believe about the dinosaurs and other extinct species? Were humans alive the same time as dinosaurs as Genesis seems to suggest. How do you explain fossils of species that no longer exist, but are similar to species alive today. How do you explain that Genesis contains two versions of creation that seem to contradict each other at times?

Well, no one has YET determined what a DAY means to GOD and what a DAY means to MAN!

God brought forth animals before he brought forth man. It is entirely possible that there were once Dinsaurs and even Unicorns. By the time MAN came along who knows how long that happened.

If a day to GOD is 100,000 years to man then Science and Relgion can coexist.

It is presumptuous to believe that GOD time and MAN time are the same. Each animal has their own life cycle from a few days to hundreds of years.

According to Carl Sagan's Cosmic Calendar man was created on the last day of the first month of the universe. We are still exiting on that day, according to the Cosmic time clock.

The Bible says man was created on the sixth day of the first week of the universe.

There are LOTS of unexplained thing in the world, that Science can't even figure out, such as Brain Surgery by Egyptian Doctors, a chemcial batter found in Mayan country and an aquaduct system also found in Mayan areas that brought water over a mountain.

Then there are the writings carved into the earth in South America that can only be seen from space.

Then there are these buildings and pyramids and observatories that still keep accurate track of the sun and planets and have lasted thousands of years, while modern, scientific man's buildings barely go back a century!

The fact is we don't know what Dinosaurs are or how long they truely lived or why they died out. Science keeps changing it's mind. I grew up with Brontosaurs and now they say it doesn't exist!

First they were reptiles, now they are more like birds.

Hard science is an explanation of how the universe works. That's how both Einsetien and Hawkings view it.

We still can't escape the fact that even science says ALL the matter in the universe has ALWAYS existed and ALWAYS will exist. It is forever.

That is also the defintion of God.

No one created God. No one created matter. They have always existed and always will exist. All you can do in the universe is convert it.

An no scientist has ever put amino acids into a shaker and cooked up one single cell living creature!

These are things just has hard to understand and explain.

I'll try.
1. Using descriptions in the bible, there was some sort of expanse in the sky that sort of kept everything in and could have increased the concentration of oxygen. These high levels gave many benefits to the earth including longevity of life and increased size of basically everything. Did you know that the brow around your eyes and nose never stop growing. If you lived a long time, you might look like a neandertal. Same with such things as reptiles and the tusks of an elephant.
2. Humans were alive with dino's. There's evidence of humans hunting them. With fossilized footprints of both together. How could this be if they appeared millions of years before us?
3. There are many similarities in some species today vs. something that you say no longer exists because of the difference in the concentration of O2, again. So, these may be the very species that still exist. They just don't live as long.
4. There are no contradictions in the creation story. The most common one that you may be thinking of is when it says that God created things in a certain order, then a chapter later it states it differently. Look closer. The first account is the creation of everything. The second account is God creating things in the garden of eden when everything around it already existed. He may have done this in front of Adam to show him that He did create everything.

I know I'm not the most articulate dude in the world, but I hope that was enough info in short form to get the point across. If you need more. You'll have to email me on the side with specifics and I'll do my best to answer anyone who may be interested.

I am an old-earth step-wise creationist.

In response to your questions:

1. Dinosaurs and other extinct species lived on earth millions of years before God created humans.

2. Humans were not alive at the same time as dinosaurs.

3. Genesis does not state that humans and dinosaurs co-existed.

4. Fossils of extinct species being similar to bones of extant species tells us nothing very much apart from the fact that the bones are similar. Such similarity does not prove Atheistic Macro*Evolution...

5. The two Genesis accounts do not contradict each other. The second account is a zoom-in version that focuses in greater detail on the creation, whereas the first account is a zoom-out overview version.

--

Item # 4 addresses the question of Atheistic Macro*Evolution... See below for additional relevant information...

There is no evidence that proves Atheistic MacroEvolution (without Intelligent Design)...

I used to believe in Evolution. However, over a period of time I have grown skeptical of the claims of Macro*Evolution... this is largely due to the weakness of the evidence for Macro*Evolution, and the fact that the evidence, rationally interpreted does not support the overarching claims made by Macro*Evolutionists...

When comparing creationism to evolution, there's sooooo many loopholes regarding the bible and the explanations of how things came to be..

1) The only evidence you have is a book that's been rewritten hundreds of times. Some religious groups maintain that yes, some stories have been tainted, while others hold that it's still word for word. Arguments like this surround the religious side of things, whereas with dinosaur fossils and the archaeology methods today, they rely on much more sophisticated tools and ideas to determine where objects originated from, such as the Carbon-Dating method, 99.9% accurate in determining the age of a bone, the bone of which is 100% real. Compare that to the confidence the world holds for the bible.

2) Genesis never really calls dinosaurs 'dinosaurs'. It refers to creatures of size as 'leviathans', and even speaks of fire-breathing mammals.. dragons .. as being real. Referring back to the carbon dating method, there have been no human remains discovered that are anywhere close to the age of prehistoric mammals.

3) Evolution explains these species and both how they relate and differ from similar living animals today. Creatures that are alive today have adapted to the world around them. Believe it or not, ants are a great example. They'll adapt to anything you throw at them. But in speaking of structural and genetic similarities, just follow the reproductive system. If a white woman with a strong immunity to a certain disease marries a black man with a strong immunity to a different disease, their offspring are likely to have traits of both parents. Traits handed down from generation to generation have caused changes in genetic makup, and that process is inevitable. Just like cancer.. if you have cancer and your have kids.. Your kids have the genetic make-up to harbor that cancer even if your spouse didn't. In that case you just hope your spouses' DNA had the Y-chromosome for that one..

4) Genesis.. the bible.. hummm. Have you ever read a childrens bible and compared it to 'the real' bible?

I hope you're not Mormon.

The earth was created by God and populated by animals in 6 days. That's 24 hours X 6.

There is no timeline provided in either Genesis 1 or 2 after those first critical 7 days.

Adam and Eve spent perhaps millions of years in the Garden of Eden, before the serpent deceived Eve and they were cast out. Remember, before they ate of the Tree of Life, they were eternal.

My sound theory explains why God created a garden to protect Adam and Eve, it explains evolution, it explains how Cain found other people.

I am still asking myself some of them questions. My pastor says yes, there were dinosaurs then. I am trying to picture a life Adam and Eve had with fig leaves and dinosaurs! Or when there was no fig leaves!! Maybe the Bible does not have all the answers for us as some were not revealed to us in the Good book anyways. There is so much missing and so much we may never have the answers for with that question. It is a good question.

I'm Muslim, and we don't believe the exact specifics of each theory, but What is said in the Quran and Hadith, which combine both of them in some ways. The Quran teaches that there was life on Earth before Adam and Eve. It also says that the first life began in water. The evolution part of it can be explained by biomimetics. There R pretty good explanations of Muslims' beliefs at harunyahya.com and whyislam.org.

Looking at the answers... I have never seen such a collection of moronic viewpoints, so thoroughly deluded and ignorant about the world, the universe and life. Simply appalling. It is no wonder that the USA ranks with backward 3rd world countries with regard to supernatural beliefs, rather that with other advanced industrial powers, where we SHOULD be. You guys would be a real gas on Jay Leno's "Jaywalkers" segment.

Go to the library and read some books, fer crissake.

Assuming man was created in God's image like the Bible says, I believe that Adam and Eve and their children were extremely smart individuals. Not like cave men. I think they had DNA splicing down pat in a very short amount of time. I think that the dinosaurs were destroyed in the flood, because God didn't create them. no biblical evidence for this. Bible doesn't contradict itself, dig further. There is evidence that animals change due to environmental changes but absolutely no evidence of them changing from one species to another.

There are 3 earth ages (II Pet.3:5-7), same earth but different ages. We are now in the 2nd earth age. Between Gen.1:1 and Gen.1:2 is a vast amount of time, if time existed. Between these 2 verses is Satan’s rebellion (Rev.12:3-4) and “his tail” drew 1/3 of God’s children. Between these 2 verses also belongs all fossils and remains, such as Dinosaurs.

In Gen.1:2 we have the of the end of the 1st earth age and the beginning of the 2nd. For clarity Gen.1:2 needs to be divided (see below).

(A) Gen.1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.

(B) Gen.1:2 And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

In (A) Gen.1:2 the first occurrence of the word “was” has been corrupted and is “became”. It reads “And the earth became without form, and void”. The end of the 1st earth age.

In (B) Gen.1:2 we have the beginning of 2nd earth age, the one we live in now. Man did not exist in flesh till this earth age.

Between (A & B) Gen.1:2 is also a vast amount of time, if time existed. Between (A & B) Gen.1:2 is; a global flood (not Noah’s which was a local flood), the destruction of Atlantis, the breakup of Gondwana Land, and the Ice Age.

Time means nothing to our Father. He is very patient and loves His children. Instead of destroying Satan and 1/3 of His children, He destroyed that first earth age. Now in this 2nd earth age we all are born innocent in the flesh. Father came in the flesh Himself, Jesus Christ, and paid the price for all. Father defeated Satin, that is death, legally. So now His children have a decision, to choose life or to choose death. It’s your decision. Choose life!!
