Here's some exercises and good food choices for you. For the best results these must go hand in hand. All of this is from a diet I made up for myself. It started working instantly AND I didn't have to starve myself or kill my muscles while exercising.

Do not make a high goal, first of all. It's a health risk to lose more than 3 pounds a week and can decrease your confidence. Besides, that much in a week would probably be water weight, which comes right back.

Try taking a walk for 30 minutes a day, adding 10 minutes each week. Once you get up to an hour long walk, start biking or jogging for 20 minutes a day, adding on minutes once again. By the time you are biking or jogging for an hour a day, just keep at it and you'll keep losing.

If your weight doesn't move, don't sweat it. It's because you are gaining muscle mass and losing fat at the same time. Did you know muscle weighs DOUBLE that of fat while taking up the same amount of space? It does! If you feel really bad about your weight not changing though, do some mesurments. They will probably be lower numbers.

Remember to EAT YOUR BREAKFAST. Eating Breakfast will reduce your hunger and increase your energy throughout the day. You should have a large breakfast, smaller lunch, and light dinner. Or you can have multiple small meals throughout the day. Avoid snacking at night (after 9 PM), and when you really want junk food, eat a half serving and substitute the other half with a fruit or veggie. Make sure you drink water too, it's helpful in losing weight faster. Be sure to lay off soda...it's high in cals.
------------------------------

The types of things to watch out for:

-High-sodium foods; they make you retain water. If you are outside sweating tons, it is great for you, but if you are indoors in the AC, don't go nuts eating it. It does make you gain weight when you retain too much water, it also makes you chubbier.

-High saturated fat and trans-fat foods; too much of this stuff can put you at risk for heart disease and make your BAD cholesterol shoot up significantly.

------------------------------

The types of things to go ahead and gobble:

-Foods with monounsaturated fats; These lower total cholesterol and bad cholesterol while raising the good cholesterol.=)

-Foods with polyunsaturated fats: These do the same thing, though they will not raise good cholesterol.

-Fiber; this is a natural laxitive and is good for weight loss. It doesn't make you puke, though. It just helps out your metobolism/digestion.;)

------------------------------

That's how I lost 85 pounds of fat and gained 20 pounds of muscle in 6.5 months. I started at 5"3 and 192 pounds, and I'm now 5"6 and 127 pounds (I'm 14 and still growing). It's been really easy to mantain, too!

Best of luck!

Your dad is putting you down! And that is very rude! How could your father say that? Well....it seems you are a bit over weight but there are some healthy ways of losing weight. You could cut down on junk food, go out for a jog a few times a week, work out on the treadmill for 20 minutes a day while reading a book or listening to some music, maybe dance for 30 minutes a day, eat breakfast more often if you don't already (This actually made me lose weight! I used to hardly eat breakfast which made me eat more high-in-fat foods throughout the rest of the day), or watch tv/play on the computer less. You're still growing through puberty so don't worry too much. Also, check out nutrition triangles online for your age group to check how many servings of dairy/protein/grains/etc you should get a day.

Losing it fast isnt the way to go, it'll only hurt your body. Exercise everyday doing some sort of aerobic activity like running or taking a bike ride. Just dont overdo it if youre not in shape then you'll end up pulling a muscle and be on the couch for a week. Join a gym and talk to a personal trainer. They could set you up on a program that could have you lose up to 5 pounds a week. Very successful and healthy. The trick is keeping up with the exercise and sticking to a diet that eliminates sweets and fats, theyre bad calories that only hurt you. But the personal trainer will give you a good idea of how to work out and what to eat according to your life style and needs.

Good Luck!

The only way to lose weight and keep it off is to make long-term lifestyle changes. Start eating better and eating less, and in the meantime, start adding more exercise into your daily life. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, park far away from the store instead of trolling for the perfect close parking spot, get off the bus a stop or two early and walk the rest of the way, etc. Just try to keep moving as much as you can all day!

Becoming a healthier, thinner person isn't something you can do "fast." Not if you want to maintain that weight loss for years to come. Slow down and start being more aware of your food intake and your activity level. Try keeping a diary of everything you eat in a day and look for things that you could easily cut out. But most of all, don't listen to your dad!

First off, it's none of your dad's business how much you weigh or how fat you are. Secondly you are not even overweight, as long as you don't gain anymore.

If you want to lose 10lb-20lb for you and no-one else, then I'd suggest a combination of cardio and weight training 3-4 times per week, together with a healthy diet, high in good proteins such as oily fish (salmon, tuna, trout, mackeral) and fresh fruits and vegetables. Only low GI carbs, so now white bread, rice, pasta, potatoes or bananas.

Good luck.

I will tell you what I learned. I used to weigh 285 due to thyroid disease and once I started getting meds for it, I knew that the weight could be lost. I tried fad diets and this and that and was hospitalized due to my body losing proper nutrients and my blood sugar dropping.

The doctor taught me that I can eat and not deprive myself of my favorite foods, I just have to learn to limit my intake and make sure I get my excercise.
People think you have to starve yourself or excercise yourself to death in order to lose weight
All you have to do is learn to eat less(without starving) and limiting the amounts of fats and sugars you take in.
Drink plenty of water. Excercise 30 minutes a day a minimum of three times a week. A good brisk walk is suitable enoughToo much does not always pay off. Our bodies have a way of defending themselves and you don't really lose the weight.

Oh Yeah, stay away from the scales, weigh yourself once a month, you do it once a week and you can get easily discouraged.
It takes discipline, but it gets easier as it goes a long especially when you notice a difference and people start seeing a difference.

Hang tight. Best of luck to you. I have lost over 80 pounds and still have a little bit more to lose.
Hang tight.
Oh Yeah, don't let your dad discourage you either.

Tell your Dad you love him, too. If you are so upset by what he said that you think you need to lose 20 pounds and fast, then he must not have said it to you in a very nice way. That's one of the reasons there are so many young people with eating disorders.

Check out Nutrisystem.com, and see if they have a program you like. Don't do any crazy fast fad diet that won't last, and might cause you some harm. Finally, do it for your own well being, not for others. Good hunting!!

why would you need to lose weight? that's not bad at all for 5'5". your dad is mean. are you chubby and sit around? if you are actually active, then you're fine. bmi's are a guide, not a law!

You are well within a healthy weight range. Your father should be smacked upside the head for what he said to you though. It is a father's job to nurture and protect the feelings of their children.
