Books are not evil, people are not necessarily evil either, but sometimes they do evil things.

The Bible is not like any other book it contains history as well as instruction. Some things that happen in history are bad and the Bible tells it as it is. A lot of the laws in the Old Testament seem severe but if you look at the background to these events you see something different. The Laws given in Deuteronomy and Leviticus were given to a special people at a special time to stop them doing pagan practises and worshipping false gods hence the extreme measures handed out. For example the law against homosexuality refers to temple practises where male temple prostitutes had sex with men.

those were old laws that you are reciting... in Montana, and many other states, the punishment for stealing a horse was death. Not anymore, but why don't we quote that and say Montanans are evil... there were old laws regarding putting slaves to death in the south... (one in specific, for sex with a WHITE woman)... it doesn't mean the people are evil or that their laws are still evil in MT or AL... they just used to be bad, bad laws... but not ALL laws are bad just because some used to be. Same with the Bible. I didn't have to tell you this, you just wanted to attack the Bible for some reason unknown to me, maybe you should try to find out why you want a reason not to agree with it... you don't need a reason, you know. You don't have to destroy a religion in order to disagree. But I don't think that the part of the Bible that says "love all men as brothers" is Evil. I do my best to live by the parts of the Bible that say to be kind, so to me, it's not evil at all.

This is just another example of why religion is stupid. It's based on a book and teachings centred around it. There are things that people believe with their whole being, but are happy to say that bits they are not comfortable with are 'old laws' and not relevant today. OK, well the bible is OLD, so it's not relevant today.

No the bible is not in itself evil. Just as the Quran is not. How people interpret it and use it as a source of justification can be.

The sections you mentioned and the actions advocated certainly seem evil to me.. but unless acted on, they are not evil.

In the wrong hands it very well can be. I don't think the book is evil or bad, but just like fire or water it can bring life or destruction. I hope you can see the life that is in it and not let people destroy you with it. God loves you and read the Bible through to the end, but let the spirit of love guide you and teach you the things that will bring out the best in your life.

Those bits of the bible are certainly evil. I often wonder why christians don't just get rid of the old testament as it doesn't deal with their religion anyway.

Certainly christianity is saved from a lot more
difficult questions by the fact that most christians havent actually read the bible!

The Bible is not evil.

It's unfortunate that you've taken out negative passages to try to justify your point... poorly. If anything your citations demonstrate... it is *human beings* who are evil. The wickedness of humanity. We only need turn on the evening news to confirm that. No wonder we need a savior.

Too bad you leave out all the good parts -- "For God so loved the world, that he sent his only Son, that whoever believes in him may have everlasting life." (John 3:16).

It's life. Kind of like life here on earth is not evil but it has evil things in it. Same.

"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion." ~ Steven Weinberg
