Sometimes nothing. But if you are looking for the true meanings of the difference then in Webster
Prayer
to address God or a god with adoration, confession, supplication, or thanksgiving
Wish
to have a desire for (as something unattainable) So in prayer you are asking for something from god. in a wish you are just hoping in general but not aiming at anyone for a possible chance of getting.

A prayer is you talking to God and asking Him for something. A wish is just that. It's just a wish.

I think a wish is something flippant, while a prayer is something more thought-out.

For example, I might WISH that God would cause a million dollars to be deposited in my bank account.

If I PRAYED this, I would realize that it isn't likely to happen, given what I know about God (as limited as that may be). I would think that prayer through first, and then probably not even pray it. God certainly COULD cause a million bucks to show up in my account, since he can do anything. But again, given what I know about him so far, this would be EXTREMELY unlikely.

If you are talking with God to grant your wish, it's a prayer. If you are just muttering to yourself that you wish you'd won the lottery, it's just a statement.

If you pray to God and just tell Him how your day went, it's just a prayer and not a wish.

So, a wish can be a prayer. And, a prayer can be a wish. But they both can just be a wish or just be a prayer. Make sense?

A prayer is directed to God, while a wish is sent out to the universe.

Prayer involves a deity, wishes may not. You can make a wish known to a deity through prayer.

wish is part of hope & hope lasts forever as well as faith & love. their are three that will continue on. A prayer is where your spirit talks to the holy spirit & he carrys your troubles to the Lord so that the Lord may enter to the father to ask for what we need. threw faith in his son.
A good son is a true blessing from the Lord. But three sons ? lol.
In Life there are many blessings Most of the Good ones have little value, hear on earth But Are Priceless In Hevean.May your life be full of blessings that are priceless Amen

A wish is selfish. A prayer should be asked with reverence and not silly such as asking for a lottery win. Our Lord supplies all that we need. This is one of my favorite quotes, Dear God, Nothing More, Nothing Less, Nothing Else, author unknown.

A wish, you are just tossing a thought out in the universe, with no expectations.

A prayer, you have deluded yourself into believing that someone is listening, and might respond.

When you try to talk to god... that's called 'prayer'. When you think you hear god talking to you... that's called 'schizophrenia'.
