You cannot take responsibility for anyone elses happiness.
No really. It won't work. Happiness is an inside job. You can't make anyone happy or sad.
I am happy. Give me ten points or call me every name in the book - nothing changes... I remain just as happy as I was and am...
Same for everyone.

You did not mention what is making your aunt unhappy. But based on my experience of having an aunt who is a complicated person and can be tough to get along with... You can only do so much for your aunt because happiness comes from within. You can call or e-mail to see how your aunt is doing, offer to be there to listen to any concerns, occasionally remember what she likes by giving her a small gift, and show her you value her in your life by telling her what you are doing and asking her for advice on stuff. Remember if she is less than agreeable at times try not to take it personal! Hope this helps!

Just be yourself and try to relax. Don't let her unhappiness affect you, but at the same time try to listen to her. Try to create some kind of diversion for her that gives her a break from whatever is bothering her. Be cheerful and just be there for her. You can't solve her problems, but it will mean a lot to her if she knows you care about her.

Give her a foot massage with one hand, while feeding her grapes and offering her a million dollar winning lottery ticket on a silver platter with the other.

Ask her!
If she's basically good-hearted and fair-minded, she'll ask for something reasonable that you can do.
If she's controlling, manipulative, unfair, or excessively needy, don't get trapped into trying to please someone who's impossible to please. Do right by her, but do right by you, too. Draw your boundaries.
