How can people claim they have a right to die? I've heard people say "But God doesn't want us to be in pain. That's why Jesus died for us, because God is a fair and loving, all-powerful Being." Did you ever think that maybe God gives people chronic illnesses and terminal diseases to teach us lessons, make us stronger or just because -- Hey! -- He's God and He can? God is whatever God wants to be, not what I or you says he is. That's the beauty of it all. If God is all we say he is, and much, much more, He doesn't have to be. If God exists as an all-powerful, all-knowing, all forgiving, all creating, all-ad-infinitum, etc., the wouldn't He (She, It) be more than capable of being something else? The Bible tells us we were created in His image. That was then, and this is now. Do you think it is currently within God's power to be a single blade of grass? Is that why there are so many sign which read "KEEPOFF THE GRASS!" Or is that merely a subliminal anti-marijuana campaign?

Thorny 4 - I truly hate to hear of your father's battle with cancer. Your loss has been great and there's not anything I can do to relieve your sorrow I couldd stop right here and drop a series of platitudes and frolic along off on my merry way, but for some reason your comment deserve something other than a quip and a quote. The ideas I put forward in my query, albeit greatly truncated due to space limitations, are there to question whether I, you or any of us can say whether another should die. Not to make light of anybody's situation, the adage You reap what you sow is basically all we can rely on, and sometimes not even that seems to placate the loss we feel. Everything has consequences. No getting around that, so we as humans must manufacture methods by which we cope with our losses. The belief system you have earned thru living is unique to you in that your life is yours alone, be that with or without a Guiding Deity.. The possibilities are limitless are limitless.

If, for a moment, you ignore religion, then it comes down to
"my body, my call."
If you use a particular religion's argument, then you are forcing your
religion down my throat - and we don't do that in this country.

Well said by someone that can breathe without a respirator, carry a thought without morphine to numb the constant pain. When I watched my father die a slow death from cancer, I was thinking about all the love God was showing him... or maybe the lessons he was teaching him... or how he was making him stronger. Must have been one of those, huh?

Long question... simple answer.
Bad stuff happens to everyone. Its a fact of life. God lets bad things happen because he has a strict hands off policy. He wants you to take your free will and choose him over the devil. He wants you to read the bible and do what it tells you to do. Start with the ten commandments it will be almost impossible for you to follow them. I bet you will break one or several of them with in a week.
If you want a right to die don't carry insurance. Nobody will want to keep you alive if the bills are not paid.

maybe God is using people who think that people do have a right to die to kill people that he wants dead. you could say God wants a lot of things the fact is unless you have evidence you should shut up and let people do there own thing unless it gets in the way of someone else's thing
also how could a terminal disease make someone stronger? is being dead the same as being stronger? cause it doesn't look that way

Man, for awhile there, I thought you were going somewhere with all that. I think you probably lit up about halfway thru and got lost. It was a wild ride... Thanks... Oh, by the way, feel free to step on my grass anytime. I believe God's got better things to do with His eternity than to become a blade of grass. But hey, that's just me.

Do you ever think that maybe people get sick because they eat poorly, or worry too much, or are in the wrong place at the wrong time? You see God as a mean bastard that gives people diseases. Yes, throw away your belief system. It is retarded and can only ruin your life.

People have a right to do what they want with their lives. Not everyone's religious and not everyone believes in God. I believe that if you know for a fact that you're dying, end it if you want. Wasting away to nothing or being in excruciating pain is something no one deserves.

Since I don't believe in God I would certainly say that I have the right to die. I don't think anyone other than yourself should tell you whether or not you should die. If you want to go kill yourself, or have a Dr. perform assisted suicide, that should be your personal choice.

You have the right to follow whatever myths you so choose.
You do not have the right to tell others when or how to end their own lives if that is the decision they make. We all have the right to do whatever we want with our lives.

Right to die?
What moron came up with that?
That's like saying a rock has the right to fall down when you drop it.
You are GOING to die, whether or not it is a "right"
its the price of admission.
