depends on what state you are in. in calif. for example bonds are not expensive, depends on your annual receipts, generally they are pretty cheap.... a few hundred dollars a year, but they dont cover much. just make people feel safer about you entering their homes, etc

depends on what type of bond you need, and for whom. you don't need to be bonded by law; but a general contractor you do work for might require it.
