He's an outdoor cat and he got into a fight with something that gave him a small cut to his upper eye-lid. His upper eye-lid is swollen. I'm presuming it's an infection but I don't have the money to take him, and he won't even get into a car or kitty carrier without killing someone. Is there anything I can do immediately to help him?

dilute an antiseptic and aply a small amount if its on the outside if its on the inside freeze a wet Q-tip and hold it on the outside for a few min. seeing as its swollen u can put some ice onit (like the Q-tips) to help the swelling. if its a long cut take a little medical tape and tape it up. if it doesn't clear up in 3-5 days he NEEDS to see a vet. Hope that helps!!

oh and if u try the baby asprin *points 2 posts down* u can also mix it in some soft butter and put in on the cat's paw. They love it!

as a former multiple-cat owner, i stress this: if you haven't already done so, take him to the vet asap! and, for god's sake, please do not try any "home remedies" to cure him. there are many life-threatening diseases that cannot be cured by applying a compress or putting creams/ointments meant for humans on animals. you have to look at him as if he were your son, flesh and blood. if he were your sibling or best friend, you wouldn't think twice about taking him to the hospital. if you're really hurting for money, there are plenty free clinics throughout the states that will help and/or put you on a payment plan. otherwise, forgo any luxury spending on yourself, prepare to be scratched, put him in the car and get him professional medical treatment. if you really love your cat, you shouldn't even have to think about doing this. unless you have vets that make housecalls, this is your option. the longer he goes without professional veterinarian attention, the more responsible you are for his declining health. i owned a cat that died of feline leukemia because i didn't want to spend the money on a vet -- although, in retrospect, i did a lot of unnecessary spending on myself when i should have gotten him shots and, later, when he was sick. his symptoms mirrored what you've described. my selfishness and ignorance about pet ownership resulted in the death of a really cool four-legged friend. if you plan to own a pet, basic things: get all shots, all the time; unless you're a vet, don't treat them yourself; don't own them if you can't feed them; spay and neuter; and give them the love they deserve -- you're representing all humans to them.

If it really loks bad, then takehim to a vet to get evaluated, If you honestly think the cat did it to himself then just wait a few days fro the swellin to go down, if it doesn't TAKE him to the vet....no questions asked!

If you won't take him to the vet ASAP, call a local cat-rescue group (you can look them up on www.petfinder.com) and call them to take the cat. You are not being responsible if you do not get the help he needs when he needs it. Otherwise, get him to the vet, and when you call, tell them your financial situation. Many will offer you payment plans for the treatment the cat requires.

If you don't have the money to take him to the vet then you should call your local SPCA to come and get him so he can be treated. he may have an infection seems to me like. oh and please if you can't afford to take care of your cat then you have absolutly no business owning him, I don't care if you love him or not. I get very pissed when I hear about people like you who can't afford your pet's bills. GIVE HIM UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
