You obviously need to get with a good bartender who knows what people like and why they like certain liquors over others less popular.

Circumstances should be right, like you've already had a great dinner, surf and turf, or a great steak, whatever, then you order a recommended liquor. Some go great with coffee, some are better served with ice, some need to be mixed in with a couple of other ingredients. The bartender, if he is not too busy, can explain all this to you and then you can try it.

I don't think you will always be disappointed. If you like Scotch, as I do, you will like a drink called a "Rusty Nail," which is simply a good brand of Scotch and a liquor called Drambuie. You can sip a Rusty Nail for an hour or more while all your friends are starting to not make much sense, you'll be fine. It is really a refreshing and enjoyable drink--favored by many Navy Officers (I'm a Commander). If that's all you have that evening, you will probably be the designated driver if you accept.

I don't know why some people feel the need to insult those that drink alcohol (referring to the other comments). Jesus drank wine and some even called him a drunk. I'm not a Christian but thought I'd throw that in there.

Anyway.. it doesn't taste bad if you drink the right thing. I'm not a fan of some liquors but mixed right, they're excellent. I'm a huge beer lover and wine.. it can take a while to learn to appreciate it, just like anything else. I even remember a point where I refused to drink coffee because I hated the taste. Now.. if I don't have it.. I'll go nuts. I LOVE COFFEE!!!

And booze too.

It's like coffee. Most don't drink it for the flavor.

There are some beverages that taste good, but in generaly liquor is "Shot" with a shotglass, the idea being NOT to taste it, or it is mixed with something to provide a decent flavor.

Not all liquors taste bad. I find the creme liquors are quite heavenly on the palette! Although I'm not much one for wines.

to get the high from the alcohol content but wine has a sweet taste and if you mix orange or grapefruit juice with vodka or gin you can hardly taste alcohol but o boy the great feeling and buzz ahead is tremendous, and the better you feel while drinking is nothing to how bad you will feel the next day and you might even get to say homage to the porcelain god!
