When i read your question, i paused and read the first answer , and i got a lump in my throat, and butterflies in my stomach, and as it may sound silly, a tear, (a few) TEARS IN MY EYES, because i do believe that, although i never heard that until now, I AGREE,

I DO CHOOSE JESUS, AND WANT HIM TO CHOOSE ME, AND FORGIVE ME, AND i thank you for that statement, it is not a question for me, it is indeed an answer.

No.

Which part do you consider a love letter? The part where God sends an angel to kill the first born of every Egyptian family? Or the part where the Bible says that it is OK to beat your slaves as long as they can get up in a couple of days?

Perhaps you mean the part where Abraham has sex with his slave and then sends her out into the dersert after she has his child?

Or is it the part where God throws Eve from paradise because she chooses knowledge over ignorent bliss?

Real love letter there.

No. The bible was written by people who invented God as a means to deal with questions that are simply too big to answer. If anything, it's a book of lessons culled together by thousands of people, over thousands of years, that mixes moral leadership, moral practicality, and a basis for ethical behavior with some really sensational stories of sex, violence, heroism, villainy, bravery, deception, and cleverness.

It's a fantastic and rich source of a lot of great things for humankind, and it's wonderful that it's still around. It is also a source of a lot of ideas that are ridiculously outmoded and that have no relevance in our civilization (yes, I'm talking about the guidance on slavery, stonings, beatings, killing women for showing too much of their hair, etc.) It's sad that it's largely a tool of demagogues, but that's the case with a lot of great literature.

My theology teacher once explained us this concept. We call the bible a love letter because it proves god love for us. This helps us differentiate it from fact, which we agree that it isn't. For example, if you were to write a love letter to someone, do you say "On August 4th, under the tree behing your parents house, I had strong feelings of love for you"? Of course not! Altough some fact may be included, its main purpose is to show your love for the other person. This same example applies to the bible.

I personally look at the bible as a piece of litterature written to help us become people of God and nothing more.

Just ask yourself: Would a loving deity tell a group of people to murder another group of people and save all the virgin girls as sex slaves? Would he send a flood to destroy everyone on the planet, even little babies and children? Would he send fire from the sky to burn everyone to death in a couple of cities, again including children and infants? Would he send plagues to kill all the firstborn in Egypt, even the children of peasants who had nothing to do with Moses and the pharoah? If you think those are examples of love, then I suppose you could consider it a "love letter from God." Sensible people just see it as a collection of myths, fables, folklore, and exaggerated hero stories written by numerous anonymous people who believed that they were chosen by a god to be rulers of the world. Many cultures believe such things, and write them into stories, that doesn't mean anyone else has to believe them.

It's not only a love letter but it covers everything that a person who loved me could ever tell me.
Just look: God let's us know the beginning to the end. He tells us in His Word all the secrets of Life and Love and
shows us through the lives of so many persons, lessons learned. When we see the friendship between Jonathan and David, we see a special love of friends.
When we see the love that Adam had for Eve to even sin so as to be found guilty with her, that is true love.
The story of the beauty of Esther, her grace and purity is a lesson on modesty. The determination of Ruth. The boldness of Rahab. The Love Moses had when he stood between God and the people as God was ready to slay them for their idolatries. The love of a mother who gave up her son, Samuel for the good of the people.
The love of a daughter for her father Jepthah , who was willing to give up her life for an oath he made to God.
The great wisdom of the Proverbs, what a lovely present from God. The love story of the Song of Solomon between the Shepherd boy and the shepherd girl is a beautiful example of how beautiful and poetic God can express true love.
And as all these words and true stories were inspired incidents and inspired writings from God Himself, we can then see how God is.
We see that He is a God of variety for He made all the beautiful flowers and trees and His creation of mankind is varied too.
The Psalms are most soothing and inspiring words
if we let them speak to our hearts.
The doctrines of the New Testament are to make us stronger in the faith and to prepare one for the wiles of the devil who is always there to put a stumbling block in our spiritual path.
God even came down to earth to express the ultimate expression of Love that He could do.
He became His Own Son to live out the daily drudge of life's little hassles and become one of us in order to feel what we feel and to finally die a horrible death as the ultimate price of expressing His Love for the world.
The Holy Bible is the greatest expression of Love there ever was because every kind of love is displayed there
as a lesson and a beacon and a blessing too.
So yes, it certainly is a Love Letter to me.

Absolutely, Even in the stories where God is angered they end with forgiveness, grace and mercy. I believe that is why we cry during the stories about the Crucifixion. Not because of the suffering but because of the enormous expression of love.

If it is, it's the longest and least coherent love letter ever written. Why is it so hard to accept that it's just a collection of books written by bronze aged tribesmen?

No I don't think it was a love letter. I consider it the lesson book of life. There are still a lot of answers to questions me might have in our lives today.

Yes. It is. A love letter He didn't have to write--just shows how much He loves us and that He was thinking of us even thousands of years ago.
