I dyed my hair ever since I was 11 (im 14) it frys your hair, i dont know about highlights though. I say the best thing you can do is put koolaid in your hair for 12 hours and you will get a bit of highlights. That's a little weird to have to wait until your in college, arent you going to be older than 18 when you go? And when you are 18 you can do whatever you want.

Well i started getting highlights at about your age... so i really don't see the problem. However, you are under your mother's rule and highlighting is expensive. Talk it over with your mother CALMLY. Don't be a brat. Ask her if it's about the money. If it is about the expense, do some extra stuff around the house to "earn" it in your mom's eyes. If its a matter of your mother not wanting you to grow up to fast, that is an entire different conversation with her. You have to show your maturity and calmly explain to her that its not a big deal, its just something you want because you are bored with your brown hair or whatever.

this is old fashioned..and u don't have to buy a thing..unless u don't have lemon juice. anyway. wash ur hair like u regularly do, take a small cup with some lemon juice in it (u don't need that much unless u want a lot of highlights) and just dip ur thumb and index finger in it and grab a piece of hair that u want a lighter color and coat it with lemon juice. (i'd only do this if u have blonde hair or if u want really drastic highlights) after u've done everything that u want highlighted..sit out in the sun and let all of ur hair dry. it works really well. and if u have brown hair...do the same thing, only instead of lemon juice, use sage tea.

bring your friends over and let your mom see how the highlights look on them, then be good do your chores and do good in school and ask can she buy the can spray that washes out so she can put a little in and see how it looks, but you must listen to the reason she is telling you no my daughter was 16 and all her friends were getting tongue rings and body piercings and i told her she could when she turned 18 she was mad but we compromised and she got a 2nd ear piercing. she also saw one of her friends piercing get infected and one friend told her about the pain after the tongue piercing and she decided to wait or maybe not even do it . your hair might not be able to take the dye and may fall out or it may make you look to grown up so be a young lady about it and try to talk to her or agree on another age maybe 16 or be creative and think of another unique thing to do to your hair maybe a cool cut or braids or 1 braid with beads on the end good luck!

I personally think highlights are good for any age but I'd wait a year or two more before I do them if I were you. Enjoy your hair now while its young and not so damaged.

sweetie yu are twvelve so what your friends did it if they smoked and drank boose would you do it. All thhe other responses you received about lying to your parents is very disrespectful. Be happy you have parents that care. Be different and a leader not a follower. Start your own trend setting Like scrapbooking night or something. do not go against you parents wishes and demands it will only hurt you in the long run.

If I was your mother I'd let you do it; highlights aren't exactly cosmetic surgery. We parents don't always make decisions that seem fair to people your age, but at 12 you don't have a lot of choice.

There are shampoo's out there that will highlight your natural hair to give you the same look...That's a lot better than actually getting chemicals on your hair at this age that could possibly damage your hair for years to come...... Go to any hair store..Sally's Beauty, Walgreen's, CVS, etc...

That is pretty young but, I've had friends that ggot them even younger. Have you considered getting temporary highlights? That way they will wash out if you don't like the look.

I think you mom is right. Highlights are amazing, but not to pretty girls, like you and at this age. Perhaps in a near future your mom will agree.
Be patient.
