i think it is a good name because probably the cat has socks and it matches the cat himself or herself

it's not very original. There was a movie where the cat was named socks, but I can't think of which one. Oh yeah, Bill Clinton's cat was named socks too.

If the cat looks like it is wearing socks then it is an excellent name; if not choose another name more suitable.

Sure, if it looks like the cat is wearing socks. It's more fitting that way, I think.

Name him William, and you can stick with your theme:
"Reverend William Lee of Nottinghamshire, England invented a sock-knitting machine in l589, and started to make hosiery out of cotton, wool and silk. The machine made bright colored socks easier to produce, cheaper, and encouraged their popularity."

I think the best pet names are people names. I've had pets named Steve, Marvin, Clark, Polly, ect. Makes it kinda fun I guess....even the most un-original people name could be an original pet name - you don't see many animals named Michael or David or John right?

Sure, if you want a name that's been used 100 billion times before. Try to come up with something original.
