My husband is in the military and I will be joining soon. I love these cats to death, but what will we do with them when we get deployed? I don't want to neglect them, but I don't think I will have enough time for them. I want what is best for them, but I keep thinking that someone else might do something bad to them if we give them away. I've had both since they were kittens and my mom won't keep them for me and all my friends have allergies. Help!!!

My husband's friends live in dorms on base and they aren't allowed to have animals, we just moved here and my two friends from work both have allergies. My family hates cats and my husband's family lives 20 hours away and just moved into a new house that they are renting and cannot keep animals. It's not an excuse, I love these little guys! I'm joining the military because I want something better for my life and I know that things will work out with my husband because it's called love and besides, deployments for our jobs will be 2-4 months max. We will be fine, I just worry about the cats.

Thats a hard situation...I wish I could take them I love animals, especially cats...I could not imagin how I would worry if I gave them up...The S.P.C.A. is a good choice, they will not kill them, they will match them with the perfect family. It has been my experience that anyone who wants to adopt actually has to attend two-three visits with the animals and the whole family to make sure everyone is compatible. It is a good option. Good luck and thank you to you and your husband for your service.

Too bad about your Mom. Any other relatives? Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, anyone?
I have over 10 cats. I can appreciate your love for them. It's a tough spot to be in, but I think the more important question here is why are you joining the military? Especially at a time like now?

don't you have siblings that can help?? and please...not ALL your friends have allergies...it's an excuse!
my aunt was in the military and served in Desert Shield and Storm. She was even sent to Panama. She has two huge lovable dogs and my stepdad had no problems taking in these dogs while she was gone. We had them for a year at one point. It is called families pulling together. And doesn't your husband have family and friends? I think you need to talk it over. If you can't get your family and friends to help you out....you have some serious issues.

What would you do if you had children?
If you can't be responsible for them and have no one that can take them in, start calling rescue groups and explain the situation. Your vet might be able to turn you on to some, or your local pet stores. Rescue groups would be your best bet. However, it will be very hard on them since you've been "mommy" since they were kittens, so they've bonded as family with you. And yes, they do have all those emotions!

I know a few people in the military who kept their pets with them. I can't imagine ever giving away my cats. I've had them since they were kittens too. If you have to give them away, make sure they have a good home - don't just drop them at a shelter. Good luck!

call the spca. although if they're not adopted, they could eventaully be euthanized. Put an ad in the paper for a caregiver until you can return. Are you sure there's no other family or friends that can take them in for awhile?? If I lived close to you, I'd watch them for ya! But, DO NOT give them to anyone Chinese.

I know your question is about cats. My question is do you really expect your marriage to last with both of you being in the military? with all the deployments you will NEVER see eachother.

Give them into adoption, post signs in the vet, email and try to find nice people that would like to adopt them, there are still people who likes to take care of animals.

find a great friend or relative that you trust but if worst comes to worst take it to the shelter because if you are both going to the military then they will not get enough attention
