The pain had gone away, but today it's really hurting. I was hoping somebody could give me some info. I have a call into my Dentist, but am waiting for the call back.

You have an absess. Get thee to a dentist and have it pulled...or at least serious antibiotics. The root canal did NOT get rid of the infection. Good luck

Hang in there. I had 6 root canals in a matter of 5 years, so I understand what you're going through. One thing it could be is that your gums are unhappy with the crown (if you have one). If that's not the case, it's possible that you have an extra root in your tooth that the dentist missed. Molars usually have 2 nerves, but one of mine had 3, which caused me to go a little nuts after my root canal....it hurts pretty bad. If that's the case, the dentist has to kill the extra nerve and fill the "hole" with the cement-like stuff. Then the pain will subside. I'm sure there's many other things that it could be, but those are the ones that I have experienced. Good luck. I feel for you. There's nothing worse than tooth pain.

Your tooth could be re-infected. There is always the possibility that the root canal wasn't successful. Are you sure its the same tooth? Sometimes you can get referred pain from other bad teeth in your mouth. Are you sure the root canal was completed? Root canals usually take more than one appointment and a lot of people think they are finished but they aren't. You might just need another appointment.

I don't know why, but I had the same problem and know of another friend who also did. Our dentists told use to switch to a toothpaste like Senodine and it worked. Also I noticed that when I would get a cold that my "dead" tooth would hurt, but it would pass.

Maybe there's a piece of left over gauze wedged down in the gum. Not unheard of. Just be patient and talk to the dentist. If they don't call back quick enough, call him again. In the mean time swish your mouth with a cup of warm water mixed with one teaspoon of salt and spit it back out. It will cleanse it and reduce swelling.

It really shouldn't if they got all of the nerve out. No nerve no pain. Unless maybe the crown it pushing against you gums in a weird way. Did you even get the crown yet? Maybe they didn't get all the nerve out. It's normal for it to be sore afterwards but not 2 weeks later.

It might be a different tooth that is causing the pain. Or it can become abscessed...again.
