They could, but may not. I have read somewhere that generally between 6-12 months a dog can forget a person, but I believe it depends on how involved you were in their life before you left. If you saw the dog merely once a week, probably not, but if you were with it 24/7, it may remember you.

Although dogs are not elephants who really "remember", your dog can and will remember you even after years of separation. Especially if you had treated him nice. He may hesitate for a moment because of scent confirmation and your posture. If the dog looked at you and you seemed approachable he would be all over you in a sec.

Absolutely. My dog is very scared of strangers and the lady from the shelter where I got him seen him after almost 3 years and he was hiding behind me and barking like he was going to kill her and she figured he would either bite her or remember her so she stuck her hand under his nose and he instantly starting crying and jumping all over her all excited. It just took him getting a good scent of her and he knew she was his "other mom".

I would think so. After I bought my dog. the girl i bought my dog from is one of my best friends but i don't see her much. it was about six months after i bought her me and my dog ran into her and she threw a big fit, really happy to see her. my dog is like a 2 yr old child. when i say fit crying screaming and all that good stuff. she threw the fit because we seen her then had to drive somewhere else to talk. while we were following her my dog was throwing a fit.

Yes through your scent ( everyone has a unique personal scent) and your tone of voice, aslo by the way you treated him! I'd expect through your home as well...if not anything else....but I'm pretty sure he will remember you...rest assure.
