To all you mindless 'Unknowns' who are hell bent on annoying us, who say Moslem as to Muslim. Please for the love of God, it's Muslim and not Moslem. I repeat Muslim ok? say after me ... Actually its Mohammedanism. This phony religion was not started by moss or allah it was started by Mohammad. People who follow Mohammad are Mohammedans.

Muslim is the romanized version of the Arabic مسلم. Moslem is just a spelling variant that's somewhat fallen into disuse. It comes from the Persian/Urdu مسلمان which is phonetically "musulman".

Neither is more technically correct than the other since it's impossible to say which is the more correct translation from the original Islamic languages.

It's like arguing whether or not it's spelled colour or color.

Surely it's not originally an English word - probably Arabic - and therefore the equivalent spelling in English is open to interpretation.
Accurate translation to the Roman alphabet using the letter sounds for English may not even be possible.

My mom says Moslem and it even drives me, a non Muslim, crazy. I've spent the last 2 years correcting her every time she says it. I wonder where that habit came from.

Dont take the spelling, in preferance to the meaning. Muslims are too strung up in details, spellings, words, books, adhearance.
Be yourself, believe what you want to believe.

The people who say "moslem" are probably ignorant and have never met anyone whos muslim...if people surround themselves by different cultures they can educate themselves about different cultures and seem less,well, rude. It is something I myself do and find it helps you understand people better...
