Yes. Wasting water will increase demand for drinkable (potable) water...after all, you can't drink the water that goes down the sink, shower, or toilet anymore. Because the demand for water increases, and because there's a limited supply of drinkable water, then prices will increase.
And an increase in your water bill isn't good, is it?

Water is a non renewable resource. there is only so much of it. if you look at the US, the great lakes have 18% of the worlds potable surface water. on top of that, the great Lakes region has a lot of fresh water lakes. Water is needed for drinking and irrigation and also sewage processing. Some of the worlds countries are facing water shortages. This includes not only the arid regions, but also island nations facing slight increases in sea levels which causes salinity of the ground water. Bangladesh has been facing this problem for some time now. At some point in the near future, water may be as valuable as oil. There may be not only civil conflicts about water but also skirmishes or even wars between countries over adjoining water. here in the USA, the southwest is running out of water quickly. Some of this is due to global warming, bu much is because much of the southwest and California were not much more than desert before major irrigation and water diversion projects. Arizona has been wanting a pipeline for lake Superior.water for some time now. Aside from the fact it would cost trillions to build, the Great lakes states and Canadian provinces would fight it. The great Lakes contain a lot of water, but this is only replenished 1$ each year. it is not an inexhaustible supply.

It depends where you're from. If you're from the rain-drenched northeast, not so much. You've got plenty of water. I've lived in the desert my whole life, and we've been in drought-like conditions for the past 5 or so years where I'm at now, so yeah, you don't use water very much.
But, yeah, listen to your dad, it's wasting water. Flushing stuff not meant to go down the drain like cigarette butts can lead to clogs of the pipes and screw up the filtration equipment further down the line.
Look at it this way, would you run your car engine while you were in the store shopping? No, it's a waste of gas, same thing with water and virtually every other natural resource.

Yes, it is. You have to keep in mind that only about 5% of the world's water is drinkable. That's 5% compared to an 80% that takes up the planet. Then you also have to remember that not every single country in the world gets clean drinking water. Quite often, our drinking water is dirty because of corrosion in pipes and whatnot.
I would fix this wasting water problem of yours, and fast. Don't leave the water running when you're brushing your teeth, washing your hands, or shaving. Try and take shorter showers and buy a water-saving shower head. Throw your cigarette butts in the garbage, they don't belong in the toilet.
Trust me, your father will be happier and so will you. Not to mention your water bills will go down.

With todays ability to resanitize and reuse water, "wasting" water is misleading. However, using the energy required for resanitizing and pumping of the water...is a waste. And I'm sure your 45 minute showers don't look too good on your dad's water bill.

No because when you use water, it just evaporates then goes somewhere else. There's been the same water that you brush your teeth with when George Washington was around. I find wasting water is a big lie.

Wasting ANYTHING is bad!
We live in such a disposable society, we believe that Earth will never run out of natural resources. So just keep on keeping on, wasting water, drilling all the oil out of the Earth, mining all the Earth's coal until - WALLA! - it's all gone and our planet is nothing more than an empty shell. -RKO-

How can wasting water be good? I don't think we're going to run out of water anytime soon, but you should conserve water when you are aware you are wasting it!

absolutley, there is only so much fresh affordable water, and wasting water not only costs you money, but also contributes to the extremeley low water levels of the great lakes. check out wwf.ca
