This is a star note it is real and legal.
Somewhere when the government was making money it got damaged so they quickly needed to be replaced and these "Star Notes" were used.

They are very collectible, I need the serial number for an accurate pricing.
In crisp condition it is between $30.00 and $100.00.

Good luck I hope you have the $100.00 version

The star means it is a replacement in the sequence. The original number was missprinted or flawed and it was removed from the sequence and replaced with the new bill with a star.

I think it means that the first one with that serial number thaey produced was a defect so they produced that one as a replacement.

What is this doing in Car Audio? I looked a $5 in my wallet, but no star. Take it to your local coin dealer or bank.
