example if you buy something it says 50$ mail in rebate i see that lot in adverstisements

A mail in Rebate is where you take the coupon on the package and mail it and a copy of you receipt to the address to get money back from making the purchase..

In order to get the rebate, you have to mail the receipt to an adress and then they mail you the rebate. So you pay up front and get it back later.
