tolerance is the wrong idea. acceptance is what is needed. you tolerate people who fart. you accept people for who they are regardless of whether you agree with their beilefs or not. people are tolerant to a degree but it is that they do not accept others beliefs as "right." if we could accept each other despite our differences without being preachy or condescending than this would be far better off than it is now.

Hey Don you should study your religions history as well and you will definetly find that the crusading chrsitians have never been happy. They always want more more more.

If you love everyone then you should learn tolerance to them. Back in the day it was dangerous to NOT believe in god because christians would come along and burn you at the stake, or crudsade against your country. Or here is an interesting form of torture, let's get 2 big slabs of rock, put a person between them, and drop the other on top of them. Yes this really happened during the Salem Witch Trials. So please please go and do your research about how loving and toleration your people have been.

And BTW "Thou shall not suffer a witch to live," is also a verse in your bible. IF THATS NOT LOVE I DONT KNOW WHAT IS!!

First of all, discussing differences and similarities in our beliefs is the whole purpose of this forum. But I don't have conversations like these in public unless someone brings up the subject. But when they do, as in this forum, I won't just smile, nod my head and act like I agree. . I will state that I disagree but that it's possible (and preferred) to disagree without being disagreeable.

The problem is a matter or semantics and definition. The true definition of tolerance is that I accept your belief for what it is. However, in the last 15 years our culture has twisted it around to mean that I have to agree with you in order to be tolerant
As far as love goes, does your family agree with every decision you make or everything you say? Sometimes love speaks up for your own benefit even when you disagree. But they still love you right? So how does a difference of belief equate to a lack of love?

And understanding. Most people don't understand themselves, let alone each other. And what does understanding have to do with either tolerance or love? I don't have to understand to tolerate or love. I don't even have to have the foggiest idea to be tolerant and loving. But how about kindness? That's a term that could be used more often. And a practice that could be more prevalent. It still doesn't mean we have to agree. It just means we agree not to trash each other when we disagree.

It's not just religious people. Most people tend to be intolerant of any belief that differs from their own, no matter what the belief is about. Intolerance spreads from fear, fear that one is wrong and also from a lack of self confidence.

Religions do teach tolerance, love, and understanding. Most of them anyway.

Not all individual groups (church, synagogue, temple, whatever) teach tolerance, love and understanding. Most major religious organizations claim they do, but the details seem to be that certain people are targeted as enemies in many cases. A big part of the problem is that they are often taught it is their OBLIGATION to change others to their religion. Anyone who resists that is therefore a target for hostility, however expressed.

Jesus taught tolerence but not acceptance or conformity when it came to religion. Jesus spoke quite abit about incorrect jewish practices and the practices of other beliefs. Jesus did not force anyone to follow Him. It was always their choice but, Jesus never told them that it was ok not to follow Him.

Jesus gave a command to love one another and to make disciples of all nations. we express our love for others by offering them the chance to come into relationship with God through Christ.

There is a danger in studying what others believe!

The total thought of the Qurán is summed up in;

Qurán 9:5
""The Verse of the Sword""
"" Fight and slay the pegans wherever you find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem""

This shows the LOVE and PEACE that this book and islam is all about!

"It has been believed heretofore in the world that there is one devil that presides over the hells; that he was created an angel of light; but having become rebellious he was cast down with his crew into hell. This belief has prevailed because the devil and satan, and also lucifer, are mentioned by name in the Word, and the Word in those places has been understood according to the sense of the letter. But by "devil" and "satan" there hell is meant, "devil" meaning the hell that is behind, where the worst dwell, who are called evil genii; and "satan" the hell that is in front, where the less wicked dwell, who are called evil spirits; and "lucifer" those that belong to Babel, or Babylon, who would extend their dominion even into heaven. That there is no one devil to whom the hells are subject is evident also from this, that all who are in the hells, like all who are in the heavens, are from the human race (see n. 311-317); and that those who have gone there from the beginning of creation to this time amount to myriads of myriads, and every one of them is a devil in accord with his opposition to the Divine while he lived in the world" (Heaven and Hell n. 544).

Most religions focus very strongly on these areas in their teachings ... but unfortunately the practice of religion varies SIGNIFICANTLY from the underlying teachings.

I have come to discover that most organized religions are just a form of fashism... they feel that everyone has to think and believe the same way that they do...
