Actually I am asking this of others of the Christian faith. I just didn't specify.

And I am trying to live my life by these and other guidlines of my faith. Personally I think people who try to draw attention to themselves by dressing immodestly are insecure and looking for affirmation.

modesty is a facet of chastity. It can promote more or less chaste thoughts.

Amen.

The trouble is that people get very offended when you ask them to give up their sins and even call us names if we do.

My family and I can't even go to the beach. The women are 99% naked! It all contributes to the downfall of society.

How far we've fallen.

Well, first of all, Chastity, I will agree is important and very rare. however, modesty was created by original sin. I'm sure you know this. And yes, with things the way they are now, it's important however, let us not forget that it is a sign of sin and we are hiding one of God's beautiful creations. Next, don't ever forget that religion is man-made and frequently puts the church's beliefs in front of what is actually said in the Bible. And NO, that is not blasphemy, I am simply adhering to a commandment, "I am the Lord, thy God, thou shalt have no other Gods before me"... If we listen to the church over the Bible, the word of God, then we are not being obedient and we are sinning. You know that some churches (which will remain nameless) think their beliefs ARE the word of God, and THAT is blasphemy. Off the quesstion, to all who say "Christians are always trying to convert others", I say this: Would you not try to encourage others to do something that made your life better? Like exercise or yoga? Try to be patient with us, some of us aren't just mindlessly trying to convert the world, but only trying to share something we see as good, and I know some are very pushy, and that's certainly not the way to share. To the person who commented on the crusades, that was a VERY non-christian act done by a religion, just as the attack on the world trade center was not a thing that the huge majority of muslims agreed with, both being reasons why noone should follow a religion or church blindly. In the end, we are all responsible for our own actions and should not judge others based on their religion, just as we shouldn't judge by race or gender. In the end, as far as modesty, clothing changes. I'm sure you wear things that 100 yrs ago would not have been acceptable, like pants. You can't change the fact that people finally think it's ok to show their tummys and butts. When women first wore one-piece bathing suits that was considered "risque"... the shock will wear off, and when women start going topless in the streets like guys (and why not) the shock of that will wear off, too. It's about time us guys weren't so interested in baby-feeders, anyway... lol And if someone else doesn't want to practice restraint and modesty, as a good Christian, you should pray for them, not preach to them, because they know what they are doing and you are not the world's moral compass.... neither am I nor anyone else who answers. You can avert your eyes, if you are so inclined.

Since when did christians ever promote any of these traits except for diligence? And even diligence is over shadowed by thousands of years of murder and war.

Case in point: Crusades. Where millions were slaughtered in the name of god. I do not call that restraint, humility, generosity (they wanted it all to themselves), chastity, mildness, temperance, friendship (they cannot co-exist with other religions), and certainly NOT friendship.

There are a lot of christians who are VERY nice people. But most of them care about their own well being while pushing their ideas off on others and trying to convert them.

I don't know, or have seen, many Christians who've practiced such, or if they have, it's to the fulfillment of their religious ego and self audacious sense of holiness.

I'm not trying to be mean, but some of the most egoistical, selfish, promiscuous and vain, ill-tempered, back stabbing slackers I've known have been Christians, so I have to wonder at how far 'Christians' have strayed from the original and good edicts of their faith. I answer this question as a 'Christian', in a matter of speaking.

But I say, good for you, for trying to encompass these things into your life. I think God would be indeed pleased, if more so called Christian REALLY tried to do the same.

Me, personally...I'm not entirely sure I could ever be so good, but perhaps there's something to be said for the effort.

There is a fine line between humility and vanity. Generosity and to generous. Modesty and being too modest. Mildness and pushover. Temperance and control and excessive. Friendship and using people for self interest. Diligence and to conscientiousness. There is nothing wrong with any of it unless you exaggerate or under exaggerate them. Then it could be a problem.

Chastity and modesty are not the same thing.

Please remember God create the human nude and it was sin that made us become modest and put on coverings.

If Adam and Eve never ate from the tree we would all be running around nude today and never think anything of it.

Look within yourself for why you find it offensive. Are you being tempted by lustful thoughts. Is your fear that others will have lustful thoughts because of your own experiences.

The human body in all of it's forms is beautiful to God. Jesus hung out with and protected harlots and prostitutes. Are you by default trying to be God by placing rules on dress and behavior that God finds acceptable.

Restraint and modesty are not simply Christian virtues, they are good sense. It keeps from making enemies, and from having others comment on your behavior. I'm a firm believer in closets, myself: ain't nobodies business what I do behind closed doors. In public, people may comment if they feel you are being immodest, and they should. They are protecting their children, and their environment. (In a tourist area like where I live, people need to think about what will make visitors who bring money stay away.)

These are valid Christian traits and I am fortunate enough to see Christians who display these traits on a regular basis, including my mentors. But the general public ignores them because they go against the beliefs of self-promotion, pride, prejudice, promiscuity, etc. Unfortunately there are many cultural Christians - those who attend church & identify themselves as Christians but who act more like the world around them than like Christ.

Christians? Oh yeah, it's that sect that worships a Zombie, right? Well, since you practice such a weird creed, don't expect people to agree with you always.

What's wrong with you, people? Why worship a corpse? Anyway, why worship anything at all? Don't you like to...um..reason, from time to time?

Try thinking for a change! It won't hurt!

There is nothing wrong with asking. BUT it can be very Judgmental.
Usually those who ask you be patient are not patient by themselves.
As for virtues, I prefer - Purity, Moderation, Generosity, Integrity, Meekness, Charity and Humility.

Modesty is one of the least understood gifts from God. In most cases it is so much more exciting to unwrap a present than to have it just sitting out there like a whore.
