Sounds like your body has built up a sensitivity to something in the wine. It could be particular to the type of wine or present in all wines. You can try taking an antihistamine before drinking your wine. That should lessen the severity of the reaction.

However, if you drink often, the reaction may worsen regardless. See your doctor and find out what's causing the reaction.

You may have developed an allergy to sulfites, a preservative used in wine and other foods. According to the FDA link below, "a person can develop sulfite sensitivity at any point in life".

You may want to bring this up with your doctor, and he/she can do a "prick test", where they prick your skin with a little bit of sulfite, and look for an allergic reaction. This will confirm that you are allergic to sulfites, and not something else in the wine. This may be important information for your health, since sulfites are used in other foods & medications, which you may need to avoid.

If you are allergic to sulfites, you can check food labels and it should tell you if there is a significant amount of sulfites in the food. Also, if you're allergic, be sure to tell your pharmacist-- some medications contain sulfites.

Yes it is very possible to be allergic to certain red wines. You may have heard about how people who don't get hang overs, or head aches ect with other alcohol may get it with red wine.

you should research this for more specifics but there are things in the red wine that your body is reacting to and the reaction can get worse the more you drink.

good luck
