Any and every time I have heard an Israeli on TV all they have said is kill kill kill. I somtimes wonder if they have become what they hate a Nazi bent on destroying everone who isn't them in thier region. They allow some "minimal" torture of suspects they have been jailing people without charges etc.

I could be wrong and GOD I hope I am but it sounds like they are insisting on war and they were just waiting for an exscuse. One thing for sure 2 or even 4 abducted soldiers does not equal the death and destruction they are dealing out. Remember the missles only came back on Israel was after they launched thiers.

If you read Ha'aretz, you will notice that the opposition parties are pretty vehement against the Israeli incursion into Lebanon, feeling that a destabilization of their northern neighbor will only invite more involvement/control by Hezbollah in Lebanese affairs.

Recent polls show 80% of Israelis approve of Olmert's policies with respect to the dismantling/neutralization of Hezbollah, so about a fifth either don't have an opinion, or are against it.

Ironically, 22 members of the Arab League have condemned Hezbollah's actions as inflammatory and inciting Israel's swift and forceful response to the raid/kidnappings of last week.

Israel seems to fight wars it doesn't necessarily start, and when you're surrounded by regimes who not only want you out of the region, but prefer you leave the region DEAD, well, then, war may be your only reality until such time as you've convinced your neighbors that their resistance to your existence is futile, or you manage to displace enough of the extreme element that seeks your annihilation and reach out to the moderate/pacific elements in surrounding nations and work towards regional peace.

In a day and age where conflicts are based on ridiculously old grudges or perpetual tit-for-tat combat initiatives, it's no surprise that Israel, as the only secular democracy and non-Muslim nation for miles, finds itself at war (covert or overt) consistently. It's not that they are FOR war, it's just that they can't afford to be against it, as it preserves their existence at the moment.

The fundamentals of this conflict are mostly incomprehensible to many. We are not talking about fishing channels or energy sources.

We are talking about the extermination of Jews at worst. At best they are asking all Israelis to pack up and leave the Middle East. Where exactly should they move to? That is a debate that has been going on for what...2000 years?

Islamofascists have conveniently linked America to this debate and we are paying dearly for it. The irony is that if we just said, "Okay we as America will no longer be in support of Israel" then that would de-link us from the conflict (in theory).

RESULT: Israel would have no choice but to defend themselves at all costs which would mean unleashing their military on those who are at war with them - Syria and Iran. Because they are surrounded by their enemy extreme measures would most certainly be implemented. READ: Nuclear arsenals.

You may be aghast by that scenario but I can't say that I would blame them. When it is kill or be killed...you better not blink. Just ask Japan.
