Absolutely. I did yoga for 6 months. I noticed the biggest difference in my legs and butt. They were completely toned. My lower back pain went completely away in month 3. My upper body was better but not as much of a difference there. Why did I stop? I better get started again!

Yoga and pilates are both great for toning. Pilates has quicker results because it's a little bit easier than the types of yoga you'd need to do to get good toning (ashtanga or bikram). I don't recommend starting out with those types of yoga simply because you move through the asanas fast and if you don't know how to do them, you can hurt yourself. I'd do both if I were you...actually I DO BOTH..but you should start with the pilates for core strengthening and toning and basic hatha yoga for balance and to learn some asanas. Then get yourself into a Bikram (Hot Yoga) class and you'll love it!

Yoga does so much more than just tone your muscles, its the everyday tune up that your body needs. Circulation is everything to the body. Yoga improves circulation. Which improves ALL of the other body functions. Breathing slowly and deeply from the diaphram is so important when you are doing Yoga. It helps every body function too. Everyday practice is also very spiritual because it gets you in touch with yourself more and your inner divine. Yoga is the BEST! Namaste!

I do yoga...I have noticed a difference in my arms...and it really helps the pain in my back (muscle spasm). I like it's slow pace...and it helps relieve stress.
