I had to have my Border Collie put down at Christmas time after she ate a full box of chocolates. She was 17 years old and I guess she may have been telling me it was time. I was carrying her up and down stairs and she would loose control at times. I was at a party and when I returned it was to late. I had her cremated and her ashes are on my mantel. A friend of mine asked if I wanted to see his dog's new litter. I saw a little pup that I just new was for me. This was three weeks after my dogs death. I couldn't stand the empty feeling in my house and the routine. Zeus my new dog has been great and yes he is a totally different breed. I believe the replacement guilt is brought on by human loved ones that die. I hope this helps, I don't regret it. I would have adopted a rescue dog but the breeder is a close friend of mine.

Don't get the same breed, there is no way the new one can live up to the old one. What a week, to make sure you are ready. I waited 2 months be fore I was ready. No I have a breed picked out now I am looking.

When you are not ready yet, don`t get another dog. Get yourself another pet, like a cat or even a hamster. They can listen too. Try to find a pet, that you would like. If you pick up a new dog, choose one, which doesn`t look like your old dog.

It all really depends on yo. If you relly like aimal and you think that yo are ready for another dog then go right ahead. If yo are still crying over your old dog tha I would wait a while. Yo can always go to youe local humane ceter and rescue a dog from there. I saved my three cats rom there.

I think that you shouldn't make your decision based on what your boyfriend can and can not do. If you have problems with him listening to you, let him know and try to work it out. If you can't work it out, then get rid of him.... THEN get a dog. Good luck! And I'm sorry to hear that you had to put down your dog.

You should wait a while. If you get another one too soon, you may just always be comparing it to the old one.Wait until you get over the other one a little, then you can appreciate your new dog for being itself.

i'm sorry to hear about your loss. i've been there 3 times before it is like losing your child, i understand and many people don't. what i have done in this same situation is wait till it comes to you, or you just melt for a new friend (much like you did for your beloved before). i am still not over the loss of my yorkie that was a year ago and have been looking since. i finally found a chihuahua that i adore, and knew he was mine the moment i laid eyes on him. so i recommend waiting till you know it is the perfect fit...it will come when you are ready.

you should wait before you get a dog
then it won't be something you do on an impulse or while grieving

maybe put all your thought into a journal or for me a spiral note book works well

or call a friend to talk to or a parent grandparent uncle aunt sister brother teacher ?????

I think you should wait a while. The new pet will not be the same as your old one. You can talk to us in the meantime. We always listen
