I just got a new puppy and he has fleas!! Ugh. I'm going to go get frontline for both him and my cat. But I also want to "bomb" the house... what's the best kind of flea bomb? Also... I live in a townhouse... will the flea bomb effect my neighbors?

Bug bombs leave a pesticide residue on everything in your house.
Try this:
Vacuum the carpeting. Sprinkle Twenty Mule Team Borax on the carpet. Repeat every time you vacuum for the next 2-3 weeks. The borax in the product will kill the fleas and with continued use will kill the fleas that hatch from the eggs.

We are having huge flea problems right now, too. I get sick around pesticides. A quick and easy cure for indoor fleas is to get a short table lamp(maybe a foot tall). Put it on the floor in the area that you are seeing fleas. If they are in multiple rooms, use multiple lamps.

Put a container of water directly below the lamp. A 9x12" cooking dish works good. The depth of the water should be about an inch. Add a couple of drops of Dawn dishwashing detergent(it's good for killing bugs, but the water alone will work).

You will be amazed at the amount of fleas that have drowned in the water each morning. Leave the light on and keep water in the dish until the flea problem is resolved.

If you have small children, be careful with the lamps being within reach and use those sticky mouse traps below the lamp instead of water.

Try it. I promise, it works!

The last person is right about Dawn Dish soap. Give your dog a bath using this as a shampoo first before using the frontline. I never heard about the light/dish pan thing but it sounds like a great idea. I keep Frontline on my dog all summer long and have never had a problem with flea's but it's always nice to know what to do just in case!!!

Besides putting frontline on the animals use the sentential heartworm pill. It helps with flea control also. I don't have a flea problem. The pill sterilizes the flea that gets on your animal and then they cannot breed. The flea Dies within days.

The borox is a wonderful suggestion. It DOES work and I've used it many times in my rental properties for renters who have animals they aren't supposed to have. also, the Light/water suggestion also has merit. Done that one too as it's safer around children and pets. Instead of water, I've always used cooking oil like corn oil or canola. Any of those are better than flea bombs. And much safer for those around you!
