I have six kids, and only had to use this on two of them, but at 3 years old its time to bring out the big guns. I am a stay at home mom, and it takes about a week. If you have any days off, and this is important to you, use them. All you need is 7 days and 50 dollars.
Explain to him that he's a big boy now, and we are all done with diapers. You stay home with him, keep them naked from the waist down (no more diaper except to sleep in) and if they start to go without going to the potty, you just scoop them up and run them there. The funny thing is, they already know you want them to go there, so when they diapers are gone, they realize its time to go. If he wants to sit down to pee, let him. Or just hold him in front of it when he starts to go. If he gets one drop in the toilet, throw a party (clap, scream, hug, cheer whatever). We had "potty candy." It was skittles, and if the two of us could get him to get anything in the potty he got to pick out a skittle after we washed our hands. Boys get the peeing in the potty within a day. Poo takes longer, they like to go privately, so they may try to put a diaper on and sneak off in a corner, you can also set them on the toilet, and go out and close the door if he wants. The $50 is a joke, its to clean the carpet. Once he see his pee stream, he may try to do it in a few creative places. But my recommendation for potty training is take the diapers, comfort them if they freak out, and cheer for them everytime you make it to the potty.
PS--If poo gets on the floor (I knew you'd wonder) scoop it up with TP and make him go wth you to flush it. It reinforce that pee and poo go in the potty. You can also dump his last diaper out in the potty before starting to show him where poo poo goes.

Im not really sure how you can potty train. I would make sure though that I made him know how important it is when he uses the big boy potty....Little kids love to know they are a big boy/girl and no longer a baby. If he goes in his pants I would tell him that babies do that (Not anything to bad dont rub it in and dont make him feel belittled because it could back fire) and maybe after the diaper is changed to ask him can he show me how a big boy does it, that way you know he is learning it may just be taking sometime for him to understand that he needs to potty. Also there is a book I read called "All about boys", that is of course a book about boys and how to raise then, how they are different from girls, and that type of stuff, anyway in the book it did say that boys are a lot harder to train then girls so dont get worried if hes not getting it right away. Also make sure that you ask him offten do you need to potty...also if he is in daycare or had a babysitter ask them to make sure they ask him. Also even if he say he doenst need to go to the bathroom make sure you go to the bathroom at the same times everyday.....That should also help. Anyway good luck and hope I have helped a little

talk about it a lot. about how he's big now and he is big enough to pee in the potty. Tell him he will get a certain treat each time he does pee. Read him books about the potty. Take him out and buy him new underware. Praise him lots for each attempt. Don't wait until he says he has to go. Take him every hour or so and make him try- wake him to try even at night.

My friend had success by putting a few cheerios in the toilet and getting him to try to aim and sink them! It was a fun game and he loved going to the potty!

Be consistent, you can't potty train one day and not the next.
good luck!

I had 2 boy's first I taught them to poop in the potty and my Father did help with showing them how a boy goes. But the key is to be consistent once you begin do not quit, every time they have an accident off to the potty,by now you probably know their bm schedule so sit them on the potty at the same time every day remember be consist ant and make a big deal about it when he does go in the potty clap, praise, maybe even give him a treat.

I just started with my son who will be 3 in a few months. I bought him "big boy" underwear and told him when he was ready to go potty on the toilet he could wear it. Within days we were trained gong pee...the other is another story. I could use some help with that one!

Good luck...just don't push it. It will come back to haunt you later. It's better for you son to go when he is ready than to "make" use the potty when he's not.

I think it differs from child to child. My daughter wouldnt stop having accidents until I finally stopped putting underwear on her (sounds wierd i know). I guess the underwear felt somewhat like a diaper, I dont know. Since I did that she didnt have any accidents and was completely potty trained. After a few weeks put underwear back on the poor child. Worked for me. Good luck.

try letting him pee in different places sometimes like outside (only when its safe and no one is looking) so they can pee and also do something different to get the feel of being dry (i didnt use the method but someone i know did,the only bad thing about this was he wanted to pee outside all the time b/c he thought it was fun).the method i used was fruit loops.make it a game, tell him to shot the cereal with his pee and give him different points for the different colors.
