Why is the sky blue?
Why do we need to drink water?
Basically the difference is an open question cannot lead to a yes or no answer.
but
a closed question can lead to a yes or no answer.
eg Do you know the time?
Do you sleep for 8 hours every night?

For me, when my daughter looks at me and asks "Mummy, do you really love me more than anything?" The answer is yes. Always yes.
