*I'm majoring in Marketing as a sophomore in college, but only because my parents majored in the same thing, and wanted me to follow in their footsteps.
*I'm really creative, talented, and attractive, and would prefer to go into the entertainment business
(but only if there are stable, high paying jobs available)

Any Advice??

I'd love some good suggestions...thanks!

The entertainment business is not known for job stability.

The best advice for you depends on what type of entertainment you are thinking of. A degree in marketing makes sense for a lot of jobs in entertainment, because effectively marketing your product (which could be a show, an actor, or a service you provide for entertainers) is of course important. And if you get into management of any sort, you will most likely need a degree of some sort.

My general advice is to stick with the marketing major (or switch to something that will not add to the time you are in college--unless you are made of money), but make sure to get involved in any additional activities that are related to your "dream" job that you can. Look for internships in the field, and be willing to travel if needed---good internship experiences will put you way past a person who just hung around home or worked at a fast food shop over the summer.

The entertainment calling is something you'll have to reconcile for yourself. I would never recommend nor discourage anyone from seeking that path. More than likely you will have a crappy job for a few years (assistant, intern, mail room, etc) you will be abused (Hint: if you are not being abused you are in a go-nowhere job) If you are in the right place at the right time you could get a decent job. It is not a meritocracy, connections and cunning rule. Make sure you read: William Goldman, and all the other show biz books. Break a leg!

It never hurts to cover some extra bases. If you want to be an entertainer, make Theatre a second major, but keep something that pays the bills in there as well. Nothing's sadder than a 25 year old actress that has to move back in with Mommy and Daddy because she couldn't afford Ramen noodles.

Then major in theater. You can't guarantee stable, PAYING jobs in any field. By the way, as you enter the workforce, you won't be getting high pay, you will probably get just enough pay to live on...maybe. Especially in the entertainment industry. You have highly paid people, and people paid very little at all. Guess where the majority is?

Personally, i love health-care, i get paid good and my hours are flexible. but i went through the same thing, my sister and mother went into accounting, and i REALLY didn't want to. i surfed the net for different careers, but first you have to write out a list of things you want in a career, and make sure you can see yourself doing whatever that is for the rest of your life. just make sure you take into consideration finances, family life, location ( if you like to travel )and benefits they are all very important when choosing. as for your parents they only want whats best for you im sure. but let them know that you need to be happy, not just rich.it'll come to you. Hope I Helped!

Do whatever your talent has. In achieving careers, later on talents are working a lot than skills. If you think you are talented in business, go and get the gold. Just develop your skills in that field.

if youre in marketing and business, maybe you should become an accountant or a business administrator/manager. If you're good at what you do, you can make up to 6-digits a year.
Entertainment is a business too.. showbiz
