Depending on if you were proven to be smuggling drugs or mearly in possesion for intention to sell the drugs you would either recieve the death panalty or a life sentance in China.
In answer to your question, if you are caught by Police or Customs officials in possession of a large quanitity of illegal narcotics at the airport you should try to remain clam, dont say or sign anything except a demand to speak to your country's consulate or Embassy.
Your consulate will arrange for a lawyer to be present before you give any statement and never under any circumstances should you provide any information until this lawyer is present and has adviced you, even if they attempt to force you or trick you into signing something or promise to make a deal or accept a bribe, you could be getting yourself into even more trouble than you are allready in.

If you or the person this happened to are innocent, then I am sorry it happened to you. Get a good lawyer and ask them to subpoena the airline for the names of everyone on that flight and all airport personnel at both airports who could have had access to the luggage. Also, if you are a known political dissident, it is possible someone planted it in your luggage to get you in trouble. If you or the other party are really guilty of this crime, I don't really care what happens to you. Drug dealer? Busted!

Don't do drugs.
Hypothethically, if I was caught, I would admit to it and face the consequence. There is no way anyone can wiggle out of a serious crime like this. Admitting to the crime could possibly get you lighter sentence.
