I think maybe he was trying to be nice since she seemed to like them, but I also think there is a hidden agenda also!!! He might want to see the panties he bought on your friend. Tell her to not even go there, just give him his money back!!!

Sounds like he wanted to be nice and buy you something, but when you picked out panties - he may of become uncomfortable. So he paid for them and left. Tell him thank you. If he starts asking to see you in them, then you got another problem.
