I hear that a lot of illegals seek assistance to get here and it is very expensive, so how expensive is it? As Warriorbabe pointed out we have a friend that recently came to this country on a visa, obtained legal citizenship and all he had to do was have a year of residency and pay fees that totaled less than $500, I know that this can not be the fabled “years” and “incredibly expensive” I keep hearing about. And INS sometimes waives the fees!? So some one educate me on how much this “coyote” makes please!!

Well, it really doesn't cost anywhere near 3000 as one respondent claimed to do the paperwork and submit it ... The mistake most people make is thinking they have to hire an immigration lawyer, which isn't necessary if your case is straightforward ... if you do the paperwork yourself you'd be hard pressed to get up to fees over 500 ....

Seems To Me That The Average ($3000) Presented Here
Would Go A LOOOONG Way In Mexico
Toward Feeding Their Hungry Family
Which IsThrown Out Here A Great Deal
As A Reason For Coming In The First Place

Somehow, I Sense Some Inconsistency

Perhaps Their Family Would Not Be So Hungry
If They Bought Some GROCERIES
Instead Of Giving It To A Coyote

It depends on the country of origin, time of travel, the reputation of the coyote and the method of travel. For example if you are coming from Central America and you will not be forced to walk at any point and you will be in the U.S in 10-15 days, it may cost you around 7000 to 8000 dollars. The person may pay half first and then pay the other half once that start working. On a single trip the coyote may bring 10 to 20 individuals, depending on the situation in Mexico (contacts, transportation and safe houses) and the situation on the border itself.

Begs the question.. If they are so poor, get paid so little in Mexico, how do they come up with thousands of dollars to pay a coyote. And what happens when they are caught and sent back? Lose all that money?? Wow, for poor people they sure do take a lot of risks with that $2500.

Any where between $2,500 to $5,000, that is what I hear living on the border....

My husband came here from Mexico and it cost us $3,000 to get his residency. I don't know where you or warriorbabe got your info. But its all in black and white on the INS web page....Why dont you go read it?

Who told you they EVER waived fees? They rarely allow political refugees. Thats a crook of $hit, get your facts straight....

last I heard it went up to $3000.00

They cannot qualify for legal immigration unless they have $10,000 in the bank and proof of ties to the land. As for the coyote, the friends and family here in the US lend the money to them to pay the coyote, then they work REALLY hard here and pay them back over about a year.

What amazes me,is you hear all these people whining about how much it costs to come here legally, and yet they can afford to pay a coyote $1,200 to $1,500 a pop, to sneak them over here! Me thinks they doth protest too much!
