The total thought of the Qurán is summed up in;

Qurán 9:5
""The Verse of the Sword""
"" Fight and slay the pegans wherever you find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem""

This shows the LOVE and PEACE that this book and islam is all about!

absolutely yes.
As a rule, people only see what they want to see, and look no further into something to find the underlying truth. You see an opressed and deprived people lashing out against their opressors as is the case for the US in Iraq. There are more than 28 million people in Iraq, and yet we hear about dozens of deaths, not hundreds of thousands, which would be endemic of a violent people as a whole, or a violent leader. I am not condoning any detrimental actions by anyone on ANY side, but if Islam were a religion of hatred, there wouldn't be enough American soldiers in the WORLD to defend us from them anywhere and everywhere.
As it stands, a radical fundamental super-minority is the only thing that you WANT to hear about, so that is what you DO hear about. Do some research. The only times Muslim's have acted out en masse in a violent manner has been when there was a significant threat to their homeland or their own people. Sounds just like what Americans would do in a similar situation if you ask me!

Yes, just because there is violence or aggression does not mean that the religion is no good. Some bad habits have devoloped.
Warfare is one of them. They don't know how to stop.
There are appx 1.2 billion Muslims in the world do you think that they all want war? Islam is a religion or peace its adherants don't always follow its precepts. For example a general in the army has a soldier who disobeys orders. Is the general to blame.?

Any religion can be used for peace or war. We're starting off on a bad foot, though, when religions maintain the reality of separation, of the 'saved' versus the 'unsaved', of the 'chosen' versus the unchosen, of the infidels versus the believers, etc. We therefore need to be careful with the Big 3 religions in this respect because they have concepts that support these separation mechanisms; the original message of the person (e.g. Jesus in the case of Christianity; I assume Mohammed's message might have been misinterpreted as wll) is always changed to favor people's ego interpretations.

It is not whether a religion is a religion of peace, it is whether the people who follow are a people of peace. And the answer is no, not just because of the extremists, but because of the moderates who stand back and take it.

But then, Christianity was the same way at one time and we do have those who bomb abortion clinics. So every group carries within it those who go off the deep end.

I am peaceful and every muslim I know is peaceful so yes Islam is a peaceful religion. The actions of a few misguided individuals should not be used to condemn an entire group of people. using your logic all Christians are slave owning segregationist that have been crusading for centuries!

what islam has deveoped into, at least ways what i see and hear on the tv news it does not appear to be a religion of peace, there is a very important doctrine that has been severely misunderstood:

KILL THE INFIDEL

misunderstood? Yes, "Kill the Infidel" is in reference to the Infidel within

Kill the infidel within

is christianity a religion of peace...are jesus' principles being applied or are they in the same boat as islam: all dirty, all filthy, all dripping with blood and filled with hatred for Abraham's son, whether it be the firstborn: Ishmael or Abrahams second son, Isaac

kill the infidel within

Yes. Islam WAS and STILL IS religion of peace. I don't think you'd say Christianity is a religion of violence even after the Crusades.

No religion is ever "of peace" or "of war", religions are of people

but of course the fact that both islam and all chistianities divide people in belivers and non belivers makes them both "not of peace"

any religion that foments a divission between people is naturally going to end up in a mess

I do not believe any religion is a religion of peace. Religions claim to hold and be teaching THE truth. If you claim that, you become violent in order to act as a consequence. Religions will be more peaceful, when they acknowledge they only hold THEIR truth, not THE universal truth.

I applaud the non-bigoted answerers out there!

Every religion has its peaceful followers and it's extremists. You can't condemn a significant part of the world's population by the actions of a few. How would you bigoted Christians there like the rest of us to judge you by the actions of Hitler? You whine about the Bible being taken out of context, and that we're not under the laws of the old testament, blah blah blah, and yet you misquote the Quoran all the time. (Please note I know these are *some* and not *all* Christians.)
