Hospital acquired infections can be a real problem. They occur in every hospital. Most hospitals have an infection control department to monitor the communicable diseases that patients may bring in with them (like TB) and also to monitor infections like yours. I do not know that much about lawsuits, but suspect that it might not be very easy to prove that the hospital's negligence caused your infection. To make things more difficult - the hospitals usually have very good attorneys to protect them in case of a lawsuit. I don't mean to discourage you - only that it might not be very easy. You could contact an attorney to discuss this further. Usually it doesn't cost anything for the first consultation. At the very least, it would be good of the hospital to write off the portion of your hospital bills related to the infection. I hope your bad experience doesn't make you think poorly of all hospitals and their employees. Most of the employees working in hospitals really do care about their patients.
I hope you feel better soon.

you probably could, especially if you contracted the MRSA during surgery. you could fault them for not having a sterile environment and for not following proper procedures in the OR. i would contact a lawyer that specializes in law suits with hospitals and see if you have a case. i know that since i have been a nurse i have seen/heard of many cases brought against the hospitals i have worked at as a result of not using sterile technique/people getting infections during their hospital stays...so it may be valid.

You need to consult an attorney who specializes in medical malpractice claims. This is not a simple question. Your records will have to be evaluated to determine whether there is a provable case that your problem is the hospital's fault. If it is a county hospital, it may be immune from suit in many jurisdictions.

Nowadays you can sue for anything. But if you sue a hospital or a doctor, and you need medical care in the future, Good luck. They keep records of patients who sue.

You can sue anybody for anything at any given point in time. It doesn't mean you'll win.
