radio shack ones are really good, what you need to know is who you are going to listen to.
Do you need "Digital" and or "Trunking"
I have a Pro-96 that does digital and trunking
most people don't need digital, but need trunking
Pro-94 i$ 450....f you just need trunking
Pro-96- $150...... if you need digital
Handheld is best option for most people, you can put it in car/house/pocket what ever.

Find a cop friend and have him or her order one for you from their supply catalogue. That's the best place to find the really good ones.
