I have a small cat who just miscarried two precious babies.....was so sad. Is it better for her state of mind (so to speak) to have a successful litter before getting spayed? OR, would it be easier on her just to get her spayed now.....and if so how soon after the miscarriage should we do this. Thanks!

It would be better for her emotionally if she had a successful litter. My cat became so much calmer and nicer after she had kittens. But it is important to know that being pregnant won't harm her. Was she harmed in the last pregnancy or close to being harmed? If so then she should probably not get pregnant. Also, was that her first pregnancy? Or is she very young? Because if so then she may have just been unprepared. In which case you should wait a bit and then let her try again. As to when she should get pregnant again, she knows the answer to that. My cat is very small and she had three litters. Each litter was spaced one year apart. The timing didn't have to be that far apart, but my cat chose for it to be.

For cats, having kittens is more of an instinctual need rather than an emotional one...letting her have a successful litter probably isn't going to make much of a difference to her emotional well-being.

You should definitely get her checked out by a vet to make sure she had a full miscarriage and that there are no serious underlying medical issues that led to miscarriage. A typical feline litter is 4-5 kittens...since she only miscarried 2, there is a shot that there may still be kittens in the womb (which could be alive or dead). A vet can tell you what the best course of action would be if there are any remaining kittens.

If she had a full miscarriage, then it'd be better to have her spayed now. There are just too many cats out there without homes.

It is a good idea to get your cat spayed to keep down the population of unwanted kittens. However, I personally believe that no female creature is completely mature physically or emotionally until she has given birth, and cats that have been mothers are sometimes more laid back and friendly. If you are sure you can find homes for the kittens, then go ahead and let her have a litter. The fact that she had a miscarriage coud indicate a problem, but most likely she was just not ready to have kittens yet. Let her get a little older. I had a cat who miscarried her first litter, but the next one she carried to term and they were all healthy. You may want to check with a vet just in case. Also, if you don't think you can place the kittens in good homes, then it's a better idea to just get her spayed.

why would you want her to have another litter? all you're doing is contributing to the increasing over population problem. don't let her have another litter. get her fixed NOW! 2morrow! the people that you give her kittens away to could adopt a kitten from the SPCA or local shelter. you wouldn't be giving the kittens that really need good and loving homes a chance. SPAY HER!!! Oh and just because a female cat has kittens doesn't mean that they're more friendly and laid back. I got my cat spayed when she was 6 months old and she's one of the friendliest cats I've ever had. that's NOT true! they're age informs how mature they are, not if they've had kittens. a vet would know this, it's commen sense.

NO and NO. Cats DO NOT think about wanting to be a mother, in the wild that is a specie survival skill. That's it. There is no emotional feeling connected to have babies as there is with humans. She was prolly to young to have a litter, and Fix her SOON before she develops sexual behavior disorders(yowling, bringing male cats home, becoming aggressive and Territorial)

I would spay her. If you feel she might be better off and would accept it, maybe adopt a kitten instead.
