To have raised my children to be responsible caring adults
To have shared my life with someone I love and respect
To have loved my family and friends the best I could
To have had the courage to speak against injustice
To have done something that mattered
To have had some fun and happiness along the way.

Being atheist? Not really. But not really agnostic either. There's no term for me, but I'd say close to atheist. Anyways, I don't focus on where I go when I die. I don't focus on when I die at all. Because once I'm dead, I'm dead. No point on wondering what happens afterwards. Not like there's anything you can do about it. And I don't like wasting my whole life trying to fit where I go after my life ends. Enough with the living already.
What I want as an end result? For all my goals that I have set for myself to be reached.

Though I'm an ignostic (with an I) not an atheist, I think I can answer here. My goals are only in this life, to begin with, which is obvious, since I don't count on an afterlife. Everything I'll ever achieve, will be on earth. And my goal would simply be to be happy. To make a family, live relatively well (not rich, but not poor, either) and be able to live on my job. But I don't think that's an "end goal". It's a "means" of living. That's how I want to live, not how I want to end up...

I am at peace wherever I find myself, I find humor and joy in everything! I have the car, the house and all the trappings of success it doesn't make me who I am or define my needs. If I were to die tomorrow I know I have left my mark and that my conscious is clean. I think want is terrible master.
It would be nice to have a true hard line division of Church and State, perchance to dream.

Wow...lots of offense taken at a non offensive question....
I'm agnostic too, and I'm sure atheists want the same basic things that we want--that everyone wants: a happy life. We just aren't going to get it in a church.

Well I'm not an atheist, but I have many friends that are and it is my understanding that they expect nothing when they die. Just dead, no Heaven, no Hell, no big house, nothingness.

Of course atheists don't all want the same things. But most of us would be satisfied with peace, brotherhood, freedom, truth, justice, all that stuff.

I wanna see every human being on earth happy.
I know it's an impossible goal, but it's worth dreaming about it.

I think this essay by Penn Gillette is eloquent and to the point:

I don't think I could have expressed it any better.
