Check out Ikea (http://www.ikea.com). They do have stores in many cities, but I think you can order online if they don't. They have great, cheap stuff and very modern lines which make it easy to decorate with clean and simple lines.
Hot color combinations include:
a teal blue, cream and sage green
black and red (with white and grey accents)
the neutrals - brown and beiges...spice it up with some red throw pillows
You can do simple and cheap window treatments by throwing sheer "scarves" over some basic rods. Here's a link to a few "no sew" ideas: http://www.bhg.com/bhg/story.jhtml;jsessionid=HL0KW5LMREFUPQFIBQNSCAQ?storyid=/templatedata/bhg/story/data/12598.xml&catref=cat680003
Also Target has great stuff for decorating these days at very amazing prices.
Have fun with it!

When I moved into my first apartment, I went to one of those places that has rent to own furniture and they had used furniture that they were selling in the basement. Someone told me to ask about this. I don't think they normally advertise it. I got a matching head board, bed frame, dresser, and a nightstand for $100. (This was 10 years ago now). But they might still do that. You can also see if there is a Hotel liquidators where you live. They sell used furniture from hotels.
If you go to HGTV.com, there is a show called Design on a Dime where they redecorate a whole room for $1000.
Try this link: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/episode_archive/0,1783,HGTV_9056_147,00.html. You choose an episode and then click on the link for more and it will tell you how they did some of the projects in the room.

The way your room looks says alot about you. Are you a neat freak or do you have a little edge/spice in you? If you like neatness then of course your room should look nice and tidy. A neatly made bed etc...as for the colors they should reflect your personality. Are you a wild over the top person? Black is a good color to represent that. Or maybe you're a shy and friendly person a nice pink or another light color is a good representation of that. What kinda music u into? Rock? Then hang pictures up of your fav rock band.

Try HGTV.com for ideas. They have lots of pictures. They have so much stuff. For cheap furniture try some of the rent to own places. Sometimes when they have to repo somebodies furniture, they don't try and re-rent it as used, they just flat out sell it for cheap. One time I got a couch and chair, 2 end tables and a coffee table for $250. They had repo'd it and cleaned it so it looked like new. Give that a try.

You know once upon a time I found the cutest bedroom furniture at a Salvation Army store. It was 50's style, a huge round mirror and dressing table (complete with bench), matching headboard/baseboard and dresser drawer. If you have one near you, keep checking, they get in new things constantly.

First, double-examine as to what you're, and are not, allowed to regulate contained in the homestead. i'd hate to work out you lose your safe practices deposit! 2d, i'm no longer particular what colour magnolia is, yet I strongly propose you to %. some colour except white. White would properly be somewhat depressing, exceedingly hostile to astounding white be taught lamps and the glare of a seen show unit. I continuously choose a medium blue with gray undertones for bedrooms because it is quite soothing. i love it. I pair the mild blue walls with floor-length army velvet curtains to dam mild. in case you are able to't substitute mild eco-friendly carpet, the blue scheme may no longer tournament. i exploit eco-friendly for my workplace. it is a puzzling colour, yet looks tremendous at the same time as executed excellent. eco-friendly is meant to set off creativity - perfect for an workplace. I keep on with colorings of eco-friendly with various tiers of yellow undertones. in case you bypass eco-friendly, be particular to make an effort and attempt out each and each of the colour samples in numerous colorings of sunshine. in case you are able to in basic terms substitute the curtains, i'd bypass to Ikea and bypass loopy! they have tremendous shimmery sheers that could want to genuinely be layered. i have also paired an highly wild obnoxious Ikea print with a muted good with sturdy success. have relaxing!

decorating is really fun! goodwill or salvation army are good places, but auctions are also a great place for cheap furniture...and its a splendid time of year for them. there are lots of websites that help you with color coordination and designing.
try homedepot.com and search for "paint" ...it will help you with all sorts of color combos and accessorize with your goodwill or auction trips.
