I think it depends on whether they treat their kids like personal psychology experiments -- which is probably true of any parents, really. And, too, what's your definition of "messed up," because it probably differs from mine, or someone else's...you know? Ultimately, I think any given parent is just as likely (or unlikely) as any other to "mess up" their kids. I wouldn't put any particular emphasis on psychologists.
This question's interesting to me because it's so common. Puts me in mind of Fred Skinner (inventor of the skinner box), who kept his baby daughter in a "baby tender," which apparently was really just a thermostatically controlled environment so she wouldn't be too hot/cold or crawl off into trouble while he was working...not unlike a playpen, but with temperature control...And people freaked out, assuming that he was doing freaky psychological "testing" on her, using her as a lab rat, because he was a psychologist.
And, of course, there are a million tv shows and movies and books based around this theme. lol. Fun, fun.

I think so, quite a lot of the time... it's like having a doctor as a parent who will over analyze every little cough or sneeze...
The parents are so concerned with not doing anything that could psychologically damage their child that these kids can have totally messed up childhoods... or theyre over protective... or they try to be 'too close' to their children... all sorts of stuff...
My rents aren't psychologists and I'm not (that) messed up. I rest my case haha

For some reason these kids fall into the same catagory as children whose parents are policeman and ministers. Maybe the parents are so busy helping other people they forgot to check out what's going on at home.

I think they'd be a LOT healthier because the parents would know what language to avoid (mechanistically), what methods are ineffective or harmful, and most importantly what stages the child is in and going through as he she grows up and thus what their greatest needs are at that point in therir life- if they care, they'd go to greater lengths to provide those things which really would help the child flourish!
