Depends how much they smoke, how often they smoke and how long they have been smoking for.

Also depends on what kind of fitness and at what level they want to acheive.

There are many footballers how throughout their career smoke cigarettes, many of which are smoking 20 to 40 a day, some smoked more.

Smoking, although it is a terrible thing to do and will wreck your health in the long term, it is said that smokers can control their breathing easier in some cases, because the regular intake of smoking causes the lungs to expand more and it is constant, so the person can control their breathing.

In the long term however someone who smokes can not have a high level of fitness. In the short term they may just about get away with it.

Absolutely not. You are killing yourself every single day with every puff. Why bother to exercise? You would be more productive if instead of exercising you beat your head up against a brick wall. Maybe that would knock some sense into you.

I am an MD. I do think it is possible, but why bother? You are not serious about your health if you continue to smoke, so what is the point? Just let yourself go and enjoy what life you have left.
