Mt 3:16-17

And when Jesus was baptised, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him; and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

John 3: 3-5

Jesus answered and said to him, "Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above." Nicodemus said to him, "How can a person once grown old be born again? Surely he cannot reenter his mother's womb and be born again, can he?" Jesus answered, "Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit.

Acts 2: 38-39

Peter (said) to them, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the holy Spirit. For the promise is made to you and to your children and to all those far off, whomever the Lord our God will call."

Acts 22: 16

Now, why delay? Get up and have yourself baptized and your sins washed away, calling upon his name.'

Romans 6: 1-4

What then shall we say? Shall we persist in sin that grace may abound? Of course not! How can we who died to sin yet live in it? Or are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life.

1 Corinthians 6: 9-11

Do you not know that the unjust will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor boy prostitutes nor sodomites nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God. That is what some of you used to be; but now you have had yourselves washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

1 Corinthians 12: 13

For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit.

Galatians 3: 26-27

For through faith you are all children of God in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

Ephesians 5: 25-26

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church and handed himself over for her to sanctify her, cleansing her by the bath of water with the word,

Colossians 2: 11-12

In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not administered by hand, by stripping off the carnal body, with the circumcision of Christ. You were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.

Titus 3: 5

not because of any righteous deeds we had done but because of his mercy, he saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal by the holy Spirit,

1 Peter 3: 18-21

For Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous, that he might lead you to God. Put to death in the flesh, he was brought to life in the spirit. In it he also went to preach to the spirits in prison, who had once been disobedient while God patiently waited in the days of Noah during the building of the ark, in which a few persons, eight in all, were saved through water. This prefigured baptism, WHICH SAVES YOU NOW .

First, Jesus' baptism is very different than ours....john preached a baptism of repentance. Jesus had no need for this.

When we are baptised, it is to remove the stain of original sin, fill us with the grace of the holy spirit, and allow us to develop a relationship with Christ.

As Catholics, we believe baptism is necessary because Jesus commanded the disciples to 'go forth and preach the Gospel to all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit."

This is called the Great Commission.

Baptism is the first Sacrament. The one that allows the Holy Spirit to work in our lives. It is a claiming of a sould for Christ....so YES...IT IS NECESSARY!!!!

According to Catholic Catechism, baptism is necessary for salvation only for those whom the gospels has been proclaimed and have had the chance of asking the sacrament. The baptism ain't only by water, it can be a baptism "of desire", that is, the desire to get baptism, even if the person doesn't have the possibilities to get it.

Additionally, the Catholic Church acknowledges that people can gain salvation even if they don't follow the christian teachings, that is, you can gain salvation if you have another faith and you are convinced that your faith is right, if you haven't been introduced to christianity or if you don't have faith at all, like atheists, but it's required to have a honest desire to find the truth. All these persons can gain salvation without baptism, this includes babies who die before baptism.

If a person believes in Jesus and god and doesn't have a desire to get baptized, this person will be separated from god.

The reference for the need of baptism are: John 3:5, Mark 16:16.

Actually, no. They hold onto infant baptism as "Christening" (literally making that baby a "Christian"). It comes from pagan backgrounds, not scriptural baptism.

These are scriptures that many "Church of Christ" folks hold onto though. The last one that you use is interesting in that regard. It refers to Noah's baptism - When was Noah baptised? In the flood, right? (When he was totally surrounded, above, below, all around with water) In Noah's case, was it the baptism which saved him? No - it was the ark. God used that ark to point us to Jesus Christ. Enter into the life of Christ and be saved. Try some other way and perish.

But what about the thief on the cross? Jesus said he would be with him in paridise. I doubt he was baptized.

Or the people in Acts who received the Holy Spirit before being baptized?

I don't know about Catholics but Christians are baptized because Jesus was baptized...He showed us how it was to be done.

But obviously baptism without wanting to follow Christ does not "save" you.

Becasue they have not read their Bibles. We are to get baptized after we get into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ to let others know that we are in a relationship and to encourage others.

What a canny way to whitewash the catholic CULT.

Baptism is not part of the salvation process! Only in the RC Cult.

Baptism and Communion are two ordinances of REMEMBRANCE to HONOUR THE GOD.

Want to know about getting saved? read below!

(I am an ex RC who escaped the Cult. )

actually a child up to when he is capable of reasoning does not need to be baptized, as catholics believe. if anything were to happen to a child he would automatically go to heaven. when your capable of reasoning and understanding right from wrong is when a christian is baptized and he/she receives the holy ghost to show him/her right from wrong.
