a) i've have my kitten for about a day. i've been feeding it meow mix, but it won't eat unless i put a few on the floor at a time. it drinks little water. will he eventually eat from the bowl by himself?
b) my kitten loves to play. i have this toy w/ a feather, and you swing it by him and he tries catching it. But when you try to pet him or wave your hand by him, most of the time he would try to catch your hand with his CLAWS, not paws. & i don't know what would happen if he got a hold of your hand and you didn't turn away. how can i make him stop? should i get the softpaws thing?
c) when i put on the softpaws thing, how do i get it calm enough to let me put them on?
d) my cat never purrs or meows or makes any noise. should i be concerned?
e) my cat also "hunts". if he looks at something for a while, he'll attack it. i heard some cats do that. will he ever grow out of it?

is it normal for a kitten to run around like CRAZY for 3 hours straight after you've played with him for a long time? and i mean CRAZY as in. like jumping out at people, hiding in the litter box, being all alert, running to one place, then staying for a split second and running to another place and running around in circles.

A) A day is not a long enough time to adequately observe your kitten's behavior. leave the food in the dish and see if it eats. It should eat out of the bowl when it gets hungry enough. Try not to put the food on the floor right away or you will just raise a cat who refuses to eat out of a bowl. If it goes around twenty-fours hours with out eating then you should consider if you have a problem or not.

B) That is normal kitten behavior. Kittens don't really understand that their claws hurt yet. Just firmly reprimand it when it claws you and you should be ok.

C) I have no idea, never having used it.

D) Again after one day you haven't seen enough to be concerned.

E) All cats do that. Kittens do it more often because that is how cats play and kittens are very playful.

a) I think if you put a bit of warm water into the mix, he may like it more. Or just leave it there and when he's hungry enough he'll eat it.
b) Softpaws are awesome. I used them with my cat and they work perfectly. He may try to bite them off, but will eventually learn that attempting is futile. Also, try not to make any sudden movements when around him. He'll think you're trying to play with him and play the only way he knows how (by clawing).
c) I just put him in my lap, hold his head down with my arm, and put them on.
d) I'm not too sure about this, but my cat only purred when I pet him hard on the head or when he napped.
e) I don't think you can ever take the hunter out of the cat.

When he sees you aren't putting the food on the floor for him any more, he'll get hungry enough to eat from the bowl.

Don't worry about the purring and meowing: Some cats simply don't. And others start quiet, then become quite vocal later in life.

For the rest, cats are hunters by instinct. You'll have to teach him that you aren't prey. If you don't want to declaw him to help with the scratching, consider getting his claws trimmed so he won't hurt you by accident.

I've never tried Soft Paws, so I can't offer an opinion there.

Good luck!

okay, I have 4 cats so i think i can help you out
a)put the food on the floor, i guess they either cant reach the bowl or they havent gotten use to eating out of the bowl. Try to bring the cat back to the litter box and food bowl and water bowl the kitten knows where it is..also, make sure the kitten is eating enough and might prefer wet food instead of dry. Try mixing it up, and then slowly taking the wet food out and eventually the kitten will have all dry food. They will eventually eat out of a bowl.
b) babies will attack anything, especially your fingers and bite down and scratch hard...it will last and last...all of my cats do it, especially the babies...they are just playing.
c)dont put a softclaw thing on, thats just stupid...cats are going to want to play. you can either accept it, or have your cat declawed.
d)you just got your cat so it is probably scared...it will purr once it gets use to you...cats also purr when they are scared..just relax and give it about a week.
e)cats never grow out of hunting..i love to take my kids guns with the laser and do it on the wall and floor..the cats love it and chase it instead of me..have fun and love your cats

A. Meow Mix the WORST food for cats. Try to get something better, like Iams, Science Diet, etc.
B. Stop playing with him briefly when he scratches. He'll learn not to, if he wants your attention. Most cats grow out of this.
C. Don't bother.
D. No. He will when he relaxes.
E. Totally normal. Cats are hunters.

Cats are hunters, by playing with him you are also teaching better hunting skills even though you think you are just playing with him. it's very normal for cats to scatch you, of course becuase you are playing with them. but if they begin to bite you, you gently bonk their Nose and say no in a deep voice. Also just keep the food in the bowl, he will become hungry enought to eat out of it. and he will begin to start drinking, he is just in what we call culture shock but for a kitten. He is still new and doesn't know what is going on.

If you just got the cat the kitty is scared!! try putting food where the cat is and water.then keep moving it back till he is comfy with its surroundings. If your cat doesnt purr or meow maybe hes justy not happy. My cat hunts too. i dont think they will ever grow out of it. Its a cats life!
