Please be careful of local laws !

Often you "must" be enrolled in a Martial Arts school to posses such weapons.
Here in California you are allowed to posses nunchaku only if you are enrolled in classes. In your possession only to and from class and during class.NOT working out at the park or anywhere else.Butterfly knifes are BANNED all together.
This is how it is in "the peoples republic of California"
Now to find gear is there a china town near you?
Is there a Martial arts supply in your county? your state?
The heck with it, e-mail me I'll help you with what you need.
Please check local laws in your area, here PC1220 stops all the fun. (penial code 12020) illegal wepons act I wish I was ABC.

I got a good butterfly knife from Asian World of Martial Arts in Philadelphia PA. They have a website, www.awma.com

As for instruction, the best thing would be a good martial arts school. But AWMA also has DVD's books, etc.

Find a teacher. You can do all right with books and videos, especially if you're diligent, but you'll progress a lot faster (and get a lot more out of your practice time) if you have a live teacher giving you feedback.
