I think it accounts for some things but blames everything on ones environment and a tit for tat response. You can cover most of this by saying that if a child grows up in ignorance he tends to stay ignorant and is an easy subject to manipulate.

The Bin Laden family lives a wealthy, civilized and educated existence. Did they terrorize little Osama so that he grew up to be a killer and a terrorist? I don't think so.

Was Saddam Hussein tortured as a child. Were his sons tortured or oppressed or suppressed?

Children react differently to terrible situations. Some will run, some will try to hide, some will be broken in spirit, some will become hatefull. None respond by bundling high tech explosives and blowing themselves up unless some adults show them how.

For example the Hamas Web site El-Fateh.net for kids appeals to young children to die for the cause. Children respond from all over. Here they are introduced by adults to propaganda. If you cannot read the El-Fateh page go to ADL.org. You will find an English article on the latest Hamas kids Web site.

The child does what he does not because of what he lives; but because of what he is trained up to be, If trained up in an atmosphere of hatred and lawlessness; the child will be hatefull and lawless. Most of us can overcome even war conditions; but few can overcome the training received from parents, elders and peers.

Not 100% true there are exceptions but few. In religeous circles the exceptions are called prophets. They are seldom respected in life because they speak aginst the status qou and die as martyrs at the hands of others. In a society that your choice is to die for peace at someone elses hand or die for hatred at your own hand too many people want to be incontrol of their own destiny and choose hatred.

The best know Christian Bible verse is the shortest "Jesus wept." Truer wrords have never been writen. I believe, God, Jesus, Moses, THe Prophets, Allah and all of heaven weep every day as they watch us take lessons meant to teach us peace and tolerance and turn them as instruments of hate raising generation after generation to follow our evil ways.

Shall we all pray as our belief systems instruct for God to reign in our lives and love to break out around the world.

Thus bringing up the life long question of nature vs nurture. Are we the way we are because of our environment or because of an ingrained personality. I tend to think it's a little of both.

If a child lives and is taught by ignorant people, he will also be ignorant and spread that ignorance to not only those around him, but his children as well.
