Pay any outstanding bills that may be listed on your credit report. Do not apply for too many credit cards, do not cancel credit cards, just put them away if you don't want them, this lowers your credit score.
If there is something on your credit report that you have problems with and think is incorrect, contact the people by writing them and dispute the report. Follow through with this as it will get the item/s taken off your report and your score will be raised.

Pay your credit cards in full each month. Do not close them though, but don't open too many. Do not ever be late or miss a payment. Check your credit report every 6 months to ensure that all the information is correct and fix anything that isn't.

1)Close out completely all "excess" credit card with $0 balance. For example, pay off a gas card and cancel the card.
2) Ask for something in writing from each card company you close.
3) Reduce the "spending limit" on your current cards with a balance. If you have a limit of $10,000 and have $3,000 already charged to that card. The excess $7,000 counts against you on your credit report as "potential debt".
4)Follow up constantly with closed accounts, including banks until you have all paperwork in order.
5)Remove your name from cards you share if you are not going to use them yourself and that person won't cancel them.
6)Reduce your number of cards to 1 or 2 cards only. Paying them off is actually the hard part, but having less to pay makes it easier for you.
7)Stop relying on your credit cards for anything. Start to use cash more frequently, (not debit cards).
