When the cramp occurs, you should massage the muscle in order to relax the muscle tissue and increase blood flow. Having some one massage it for you works even better. Stretch afterwards and drink cold water.
To prevent cramps: Always stay hydrated. It takes 2 hours for your body to become hydrated, so try to be there before your workout, practice, or game. Within those two hours, stick to water. You may also be in need of extra potassium and sodium. Electrolytes and oils also help. Drink a sports drink throught the day, but not within that 2 hour period, unless provided by a coach or trainer.
And stretch before your work out. It loosens up the muscle tissue.
This is a diet and fitness question, right? I don't know what to do about menstrual cramps.

To get rid of, ibuprofen and sleep. Exercise also helps, even though you probably don't feel like exercising. To prevent cramps, or at least make them more mild, stop eating red meat a few days before and one day after your period starts. Red meat has the same hormone in it that is in your body and causes your cramps, and the less of the hormone that is in your system, the less cramping you will have.

cramp is caused by build up of lactic acid in a muscle. Basically this happens when the muscle starts to work anaerobically as is not receiving enough oxygen.
If you work out hard enough you will always get cramp - look at pro footballers - always collapsing with it. But to reduce the risk make sure properly hydrated before during and after exercise. My motto is make sure you piss is clear before starting (ie not yellow at all).
Increasing your fitness levels will reduce cramp too.
Or of course it may be caused by running style, training shoes etc etc.

Cramps are often due to a lack of Magnesium. Take a good Magnesium supplement regularly. If you drink a lot of milk then without Mag u may cramp.
It wont do any harm to take the supplement anyway so worth a shot. Its also good for your heart and helps alkalise your body

When I have menstrual cramps I take the whole herb called Valerian Root. This herb also helps with insomnia, it relaxes your muscles and you will sleep like a baby. Try it and you'll tell the difference.

I think its normally a sign that your body needs salt, the potassium in bananas is good if you stand all day. Do some stretching exercises and drink plenty of water.

I do these things:
warm up a towel either in the dryer or with an iron, pillow case, or put hot water in a water bottle and put it on my lower abdomen if that does not work I hop in the tub, and if that does not work I sit on my knees and then lay forward with my hands on my stomach and pray. ....if it stays go to the hospital.
