Absolutely. In fact my mother has been doing it for years and it keeps her coffee beans fresh from the store for at least a week.

You can, but it pulls the oils out of the coffee and alters the taste.
Unless you are not going to use it for months, I'd leave it in a cool dry place, like your pantry or cupboard.

Yes, assuming you're talking about ground or whole-bean coffee -- it will prevent it from becoming stale (as long as you freeze it in an airtight container; a zip-style plastic bag will do fine.)
If you're talking about brewed coffee, it will eventually freeze. Use it as the "ice" in iced coffee!

It will extend the freshness somewhat, but if you want fresh (and I mean FRESH) coffee, roast and grind it yourself.
