My cat, Kicha, is 3 years old. She loves us and she loves people. Whenever we go on vacation, we leave her alone with a bag of food with the front ripped off so she has plenty to eat. Someone also checks up on Kicha. However, can we get another cat for her? How old should he be? Should he be a he or a she?

One other question, would they get along when we leave for vacations?

If you get another cat, make sure it's a female KITTEN. Your present feline will bond easier with a kitten than an older cat. As for leaving them alone while on vacation, you need to be sure that your cats won't fight or hurt each other first. Wait at least three months before leaving them alone for more than a day. That way you will be sure that they are acclimated to each other.

To introduce a new animal, place them in separate rooms with door closed. After a day, switch rooms. They will learn each other's smells and build up curiousity of each other. After the 2nd day open the doors and let them meet. It's better then dropping a new creature into Kicha's space and expecting them to get along. Age shouldn't matter. She may become a surrogate mother of sorts and show a kitten the way things are done. If you prefer, get one that is littered trained all ready so you don't have to worry about the mess. Either male or female would be fine, but males do "mark" their territory and it stinks. Getting them fixed will help with that.

Cats are territorial so they may fight. At first. But once they get used to each other Kicha will have some company. Just remember to pay just as much attention to her as the new cat. Oh one more thing, she may spray or 'mark her territory' you can't prevent but she'll stop soon enough

Get another same age but male. Make sure they get allong before leaving alone together. Have both fixed, if not done, you might have a larger family when you get back.lol

Yes but of course it will take time, I suggest you get a female cat. Male cats usually run away and they will mate alot.
