As other answers have noted, Jones is an extremely common name. If you really want to find your mother and sisters, I suggest you try contacting a professional genealogist. They tend to charge less than private investigators, and they may be more effective in a case like this.

Even with identifying details, it can be very difficult to locate people with common surnames. I have seen cases with *uncommon* surnames where there were two people with the same first name, same middle initial, same approximate age, and had a daughter with the same first name.

I would suggest that you may want to look for a genealogist who specializes in adoption research, even if you have not been adopted. It is the one specialty which would most closely meet your requirements. To find one, go to and use the search form there.

That is a very common name. The likely hood of your finding them if all you have to go off of is the last names Jones then it's a long shot. You need a lot more information. Good luck though

Good luck. I am still looking for decendants of Richard Edwards. It is not easy. Since your last name is Jones and you are African-American, your search may be harder for you. There are several and I mean several people who are Black with the last name Jones, it was (no offense to you or anyone of black decent) a slave name. You are going to have a lot of searching to do. I suggest having a full name, a birthplace and date of birth, and looking in public records.
